2008 1/8th scale Euros Cancelled Categories - Events, Gas, Industry, International, On Road, Racing , trackback
We have received some more bad news concerning RC racing, following the immediate halt to EP racing in Norway, and that is that the 2008 European 1/8th scale ‘A’ Championships and preceeding 1/8th scale EFRA GP, to have been held in Roeselare, Belgium have been cancelled. We received the letter from Franky Noens, 1/10th scale section chairman in EFRA and secretary of the Belgian association, saying that due to problems with noise and no immediate solution the events have been cancelled. What hasn’t been said is if they will be held somewhere else or just left off the calendar next year, we would presume that they will find another venue. Roeselare played host to this years European 1/10th scale ‘B’ Championships.

Dear Friends,
I have some really bad news….The EC 1/8 A and the GP 2008 at Roeselare Belgium, has to be cancelled…
The reason for this cancellation is the continuing noise problem. Despite former verbal agreements with the politicians in the town hall of Roeselare, who would take care of the problem, there are now several official police reports. The municipality of Roeselare has officially written to the Club, that in case of a new offence they will close down the track. Certainly this will be continued in a law court.
The club is willing to put up some noise barriers, but this takes time, and we can not be certain this will be effective enough to keep the noise at a reasonable level for the complaining neighbourhood. We have looked at this problem from all sides, a meeting with the municipality did not turn out in a solution. They are not willing to give us any guarantees, it would be a disaster if we were forced to close down during the EC.
On behalf of the organising club RCR, and the board of the Belgian federation, we would like to apologise for this inconvenience.
Kind Regards,
Franky Noens
Secretary FBA

Thats realy bad news! I don’t know what poeple thinking there is a train station near the track so there is more noise from the treins than the cars :s
it’s the same with the track in Utrecht and Velp (both in Holland), located next to a busy highway…on the otherside of the road it was impossible to hear a 1:8.
still the complaints where coming in….those complaints are just because people can fill them in.
I cant understand why the people complaining cant put up with the noise for such a short period of time.
Some people even complain during the hollidays because children are playing outside and are making to much noise… Where does it end?
The management groups of the Roeselare, Utrech and Velp tracks should contact Durisol in the Netherlands: http://www.durisol.nl
Durisol manufactures sound attentuation products specifically for this purpose. We here at the Ontario 1/8 On Road Racing Club in Canada will be implementing a Durisol noise wall in response to similar noise complaints. They’re not cheap but they are very effective.
