Xray Column

The 20th installment in the Xray column from Xray owner and chief designer Juraj Hudy is now online. In this months column, Juraj talks about the current economic climate and its effect on the model car industry.

Over the last several years we have kept our export prices the same despite the expenses for labor, energy, material, services have been increasing constantly above the standard inflation rate. The Slovak economy has been exceptionally strong over the last few years and when for 1 Euro we received a few years ago over 40 Slovak crowns, today it is only 30 Slovak crowns; and for 1 USD we received a few years ago over 42 Slovak crowns, today it is only 19 Slovak crowns. If you do the math, you will fully understand my concern and the tough situation we have to face.

I understand the crisis, yet FG Gro(e)schl was quick to charge more for their product in the US. As such anyone can see that for example if you wanted a Losi Eight in Europe you pay twice the cost as here. I think R/C should be affordable to all as it used to be when we could race a near stock RC-10 (original version) or a RC10L in the 80’s and do well. I just hope the cost stabilizes, and does not get out of hand, as with FG.
