The future of Serpent, one of the pioneering companies of the on rc racing scene, has been the subject of much industry talk lately and today the men behind the company, Ronald Baar & Michael Salven, issued a statement to try and clear up some of the rumours doing the rounds. In the statement they clarify a number of issues including the fact the company will still have its HQ, albeit on a smaller scale, in The Netherlands. Under the company’s new structure it will have three main locations in SerpentAsia, SerpentAmerica and SerpentEurope which will support the 45 Serpent distributors World Wide. Backing up the statement is Serpent’s presence at the iHobby Expo in the Chicago this weekend where their new US distributor has a booth.

Serpent has been going through some changes lately and many rumours have been singing around, so time to give some facts.
The facts
Serpent Headquarters remains based in Heemstede, Holland, at a smaller location than before.. At Serpent head-quarters general project-management, r&d, marketing and sales are being done. Michael Salven works on all designs of current and new projects. Billy Easton works on r&d too, but then based in the USA.Serpent has moved all the production to Asia. In the last 5-10 years already most parts were made in Asia and we focused production in Holland on injection moulding of all nylon parts, logistics and packing of car-kits and spare parts. To make things more efficient and flexible we decided to move all production to one expert production location in Asia. This facility is fully operational and kits and parts are made available from there.
Before the main warehouse was in Holland. In the new structure it is managed in 3 locations SerpentAsia, SerpentAmerica and SerpentEurope (in the making). Of course the network of Serpent Distributors (over 45 worldwide) will continue to operate as before.
Serpent is working on some exciting new projects, which will be revealed in the time to come, we will keep you posted, as usual. Some more info on the development of the Serpent company will follow too.

I thought as stated on Neo Buggy that they sold off and bunch of stuff? I sure hope they did not go bankrupt, I have had a Serpent Excel since the 80′s. I do hope they get back on their feet, they set the original standard of excellence in 1/8 and 1/10 235mm.

They are bancrupt, all existing inventory will be sold in an auction. At the moment a curator is the head of the company Serpent MRC. Ronald de Baar and Michael Salven aren’t the owners of Serpent anymore. It seems that the the brand “Serpent” has been sold to an Asian company. They already own the domain http://www.serpent.com
If Ronald and Michael continue to work for “Serpent” than as employees or from a company outside of Serpent. We will see what the future brings

I guess Pieter B. may have known what was coming when he sold the company to M. Salven. That really sucks. I think it is sad that companies hit such hard times and to stay alive have to go to Asia, which I am not so upset about, its just that Serpent Europe is no more. It could be worse they could have went the way of BMT, and SMP.
