Rear
More notable changes have taken place in the rear of the chassis plate. The motor bay received three reinforcement ribs to strengthen the back end of the car and fork-shaped reinforcements strengthen the part underneath the gear box. The hinge pins of the rear wishbones now locate in brass inserts rather than in plastic braces. This modification ensures a slop-free mounting of the wishbones over a long period of time, while the old solution was prone to become sloppy in no time.

Part of the rear assembly are the new ‘flat’ wishbones that are interchangeable from left to right. This helps to keep costs for spares down as you can use them on both sides of the buggy. And while being on the subject of the rear suspension. In order to keep the wheel rates similar to the ‘angled wishbone’ suspension, a new rear shock tower is supplied with the kit that differs quite a bit from the older one. The shocks mount higher and more inclined on the Squared item.

The transmission is unchanged from the previous 4-Gear conversion but now comes with a tasty looking polished aluminium motor plate. We used a new Vampire Racing option part for the X-6 as you can see. The new rear toe plate is made out of aluminium and blue anodized. It not only looks good but add additional weight and strength to the rear of the car. A fact that never hurts …

Additionally we fitted the longer ‘BK’ style wheels axles to the B4 universals to achieve the maximum droop. A very common modification especially for rutted European tracks. See our reference photo in the image gallery on page 4 of this review to see how the longer axles allow for more droop. The only other part you need to complete the modification are two bearing spacers (from the Losi XXX-4 front spindle for example) to shim the axles towards the differential.

Finish
Although hard to spot the X-6 Squared received an updated body that now incorporates two lower cut lines for a normal and a ‘slammed’ look. It also features new rear venting holes for the motor, a different cut line at the very back end and three optional venting holes in front of the wind screen. Our example was beautifully painted by Jonathan of France based JNDesigns.

We equipped our review car with a Team Orion 6.5T 2008 Race motor, Team Orion Vortex Race Spec speedo and a Vampire Racing 4000mAh 35C LiPo battery pack kindly supplied by Sven of www.ruddog-shop.com. Beside the Vampire rear toe block we also used Nortech Racing’s anodised washers, nuts, shock retaining screws and of course a set of ‘Whities’ o-rings to rebuild our Losi shocks. The first to add some blue touches to our car, the latter to make for a silky smooth shock operation as the Whities o-rings are less prone to swell over time compared to some other products on the market.
