Dominik Mayer takes victory in South German Rd1

The weekend of the 17th/18th of April saw the first race of the South German 2010 season raced at the fast Bamberg track. Among the 44 participants were the two young Velox drivers Dominik Mayer and Maximilian Vogl that already had some good results last year. In total 5 qualifying rounds were held, two on Saturday afternoon, the remaining three on Sunday morning. Dominik Mayer secured himself the pole-position for the 30min final with an impressive performance, racing only two of the five qualifying rounds. During his best run he broke the old track record by 0,05 sec. Also Maxi Vogl managed to secure a direct-qualifier spot for the final by having the 3rd best time, his best lap was also fast than the old track record.

The 30 minute final on Sunday afternoon was very exciting. At the start Dominik could defend his position, Sabrina Lechner followed on 2nd place in front of Maxi Vogl. In the first laps these three drivers pulled away from the rest of the field very fast, but after 5 laps the engine of Maxi became rich. He had to enter the pit lane for some adjustments and lost a lot of time. In the front the battle was on between Dominik and Sabrina, the gap varied between 1,5 sec and 8,0 sec. But two minutes before the end Sabrina had to retire due to a driving error and Dominik could cruise to the end. The final result of the expert class was:

1. Dominik Mayer – Shepherd Velox V8
2. Sabrina Lechner – Serpent 966
3. Maximilian Vogl- Shepherd Velox V8
