STRC XXX-SCT range of option parts

ST Racing Concepts have turned their attentions to the Losi XXX-SCT truck and as with the other cars they make parts for they tried to not just add durability with their aluminium parts but also tried to build in performance advantages and innovation to each part as well. Especially with the XXX-SCT, they understand that this is not going to be a basher for most, but more of a race vehicle, so their new line of products were built with that in mind.

Front bulkhead: because of the material used throughout the XXX-SCT (which is a nylon plastic that’s on the soft side for RTR durability) this aluminium front bulkhead increase durability and precision of the front suspension. They also added set-screws to hold the hinge-pins in place since the truck uses e-clips, in case the e-clips pops off, the set-screw will still securely hold the hinge-pins in place. The set-screw location are put in a 45 deg. angle, so even with the skid plate on, you can still access the setscrew.

Hex adapters, steering bellcrank, motor plate, and rear lower shock stand offs: The hex adapter in aluminium are more durable than plastic and have virtually no chance of rounding off the edges, so it is always a nice tight fit to the hex of the rim. We used a “lock-pin” style securing of the hex adapter, as the more traditional clamp style does not give a perfect hexagon shape to the hex adapters and the tiny clamp style hex screws are easy to strip both at the screw head and in the threads for the hex. The rear lower shock stand offs is a critical piece of the rear suspension despite being just a small component. The stock plastic piece due to its material will tend to flex and our aluminium piece will help keep the rear shocks operating true and help keep the shock shaft straight during compression.

The steering bellcrank in aluminium take away any flex and “wandering” of the truck from the plastic pieces, as with other short course trucks, this tend to be on the top of the list as far as upgrades due to the larger wheel and heavier weight of the short course truck putting more stress on the steering components. Lastly, their CNC machined aluminium motor plates are a bit thicker than stock and milled with heatsink “fins” to help dissipate heat.

Front and rear threaded shock bodies and collars: Although the kit comes with aluminium shocks already (which is a very nice touch by Losi) the threaded shock bodies adds allow for tuning in smaller and more precise increments. The stock plastic clamp collars just seem like they will pop-off upwards in a hard landing if not tighten down properly, and being plastic, they will eventually wear out at the screw thread. The aluminium collars features o-ring inside to hold its position better on the shock bodies and not move even in the hardest landing or crashes. Installing these threaded shock bodies are easy, simply use all the same internal shock components from the kit.

Front C-Hub and Steering Knuckles: besides the increase in durability due to the material, we went further and increase the thickness of the arm portion of the steering knuckle for even more durability, because the XXX-SCT’s steering knuckle’s arm is longer than most short course truck that we’ve seen, so it will tend to flex in plastic material. The C-Hub retains all camber hole locations, and for the hinge-pin, axle holes, and king-pin holes, we took extra care in making sure that all holes hold nice tight tolerances so it is not a sloppy fit.

Front skid plate: obviously it is heavier and more durable than the plastic piece, but for those that are looking to add a bit weight up front for more steering, the skid plate is a good option part to achieve that at a good location (low to the ground)

Rear Bulkhead and rear hub carriers: We went with the rear bulkhead at 3 deg. and our hub carriers at 0, 0.5 and 1 deg. This allows XXX-SCT racers to tune the rear toe- in at 3 deg, 3.5 and 4 deg. The rear bulkhead like the front also features set-screws to hold the hinge-pins in place in case the e-clips are lost. The rear hubs have the set-screws to hold the hinge-pins as well in case again if the hinge-pin e-clip ejects itself. For the hub carriers, our manufacturing process now anodizes the part first and then we drill the bearing holes. This way the tolerance at the bearing location is not affected by the anodizing process so the bearing is a nice tight fit.

Front and rear graphite suspension brace, graphite battery hold down plate: Graphite as a material for the suspension brace is lighter than the stock aluminium stamped pieces and will flex less in holding the front and rear hinge-pins together. The graphite battery plate will not flex compare to the stock plastic piece and being in its long length, having it in a stiffer material like graphite would securely hold the battery in place.

To really help you stand out with your XXX-SCT and customize it to your liking, all aluminium option parts are available in 4 different anodizing: Blue, Gun Metal, Red and Silver.
