Thomas Stockman wins Belgian nationals Rd1

The first race of the Belgian national touring car championship 2012 took place in Chatelineau, near Charleroi. Hosted by the MRCC on an indoor track fifty racers made it to the first round of the year. Thomas Stockman (Xray) took TQ followed by Nick Joosens who put his Yokomo on the second spot. Last years champion Olivier Bultynck was third quickest with his Yokomo.

The first final saw a fight between Thomas, Nick and Olivier. Thomas took the lead and Olivier begun to attack Nick. Following a nice overtake Olivier went on to hunt Thomas. Within a couple of laps Olivier closed the gap and a fight for the first place begun. Further down the field Nick was pushed by another car resulting in a flip over on the main straight just in the moment the leading two went down the straight. Thomas was able to pass but Olivier hit Nick’s car giving Thomas not only room to breath but also the win of A main one. Meanwhile local driver Manuel Henriet took second in front of Olivier.

The second final looked like a copy of the first. Thomas was able to take the lead followed by Nick and Olivier. Olivier tried to overtake Nick but he defended his position and causing Olivier to spin which then lead into a problem on Olivier’s car. This meant the win of A main two with Manuel Henriet taking second place and Rico Claeys in third.

In the last A main Thomas went away right from the start but Olivier was able to overtake him after a few laps. Olivier tried to pull away and meanwhile Manuel was hunting Nick for third place. Thomas now had Olivier on his back and tried to keep him off but Ollie was strong in the last final and took the lead until the very end. Nick came in third in front of Manuel. This meant Thomas Stockman was crowned the winner followed by Manuel Henriet in second place and Olivier Bultynck in third place.
