Søren Boy Holst wins Danish TC championships

Søren Boy Holst wins Danish TC championships

The 4th and final round of the Danish National Championships, under the official motorsports federation DASU, where held at the former Euros track in Glostrup, just outside of Copenhagen. The weather forecast promised dry conditions but on practice day the drivers had to cope with mixed conditions. In the SuperStock class Søren Boy Holst and Mike Gosvig showed good speed and a slight advantage over the other drivers although a good amount of drivers would be able to win. The race day started with sun, but a damp track due to overnight rain. In the first round the battle was close between Søren and Mike, but after nine laps Søren’s car stopped and he had to retire to save the precious control tyres. Mike relaxed a bit to spare tyres also and won the round ahead of Lars Holm and Christian Lehm.

For the second round of qualifying Søren knew that his Sorex tyres were a little bit better than the rest. Keeping his focus and making no mistakes, he could take the round with a one second win ahead of Mike and Christian. For the third and last qualifying round Søren decided to use his remaining two control tyres at the rear, together with some minor setup changes to gain more steering. Søren now was able to drive just as fast as in the previous heat. Mike was pushing hard to keep up the pace, but halfway through the seven minute heat, he gave up, and stopped to spare some rubber for the finals. Christian and Lars had the same idea, but they forgot about Steffan Finnich in the next heat, who could then take the third place overall, due to a second and fourth place overall in the qualification rounds.

Qualifying result

3. Steffan Finnich – Xray
4. Christian Lehm – T.O.P.

The weather didn’t change for the finals, but the skies looked pretty cloudy once in a while, so everyone was excited if the finals could be held on a dry track. For the first leg both Søren and Mike left the grid with spinning tires. Søren reacted instantly and slowed down, giving him a 5 meter lead on the first lap. He knew that Mike would be fast on the first 10 laps, but the comfortable lead wasn’t lost, and after the 10 laps Mike started to loose speed, giving Søren a bigger lead. Mike had to push a lot, which caused him to make a mistake in the infield of the track. After that Sørens started to be gentle on the rubber tyres and cruised to the win in leg 1. Steffan Finnich who gained the third place on the grid, had a technical problem just before the start, and had to retire. Mike finished in second place, followed by Christian and Lars.

The start of the second A final was better, but already on the first lap, Mike couldn’t resist to touch the rear end of Søren’s car. On the second lap he did it again, this time so hard that Sørens car was facing the opposite direction. He had to let the other cars pass, while Mike had to wait, but after turning the car around, Søren was too excited and touched another car, so now he had to wait and respect this car to get back in the line. Meanwhile Christian and Caspar Morgen lined up in front, with Mike and Søren chasing through the field. Mike took the lead, while Søren drove like crazy and fought his way up from 8th position, ending the race in second place just one second behind Mike.

Now the battle was up for the final leg. Søren and Mike so far scored a first and second place and Christian had two third places finishes. The skies were black, and the temperature dropped. And to make everything more exciting, the lap counter broke down just before the start, so everyone had to wait on the drivers stand. On the tone all eight drivers lined up nicely, but on the third lap Mike hit the rear end of Søren’s car causing the body to wrap. After the following stop and go penalty Mike came back just behind Søren. The manoeuvre cost the front runners around six seconds, but they both knew that the guy in front would win, no matter what position they would cross the finish line. The distance between the two cars was only four meters, but after five minutes they got very close to Christian who was leading the race. Now the leg had three cars driving within three meters with no room at all for mistakes. That was exactly what Christian did after 6 minutes. Søren passed on the inside, and Mike on the outside, while Christian spun out. This was also how they crossed the checkered flag, separated by one second. This handed Søren Boy Holst the win in front of Mike Gosvig and Christian Lehm with this also being the order of the 2013 championship.
