Belgian Touring Car nationals Rd2 – Report
The second round of the Belgian Electric Touringcar Championship was held last weekend in Zarren. Racers from around Belgium and Holland came to battle for the win in the Efra, Stock and supporting F1 class. In the very competitive Efra class it was Olivier Bultynck who was fast all weekend and he had a great last qualifier to put himself on the pole. In second spot sat Nick Joosens followed by Nicolas Delisé and Rico Claeys.
The first A-main looked like a battle between Nick and Olivier. Nick did everything he could to follow Olivier and he did well in the first half of the race but then Olivier opened a gap and took the win. Nick came in 2nd and Nicolas followed in 3rd place.
In the second leg Olivier pulled away right from the start and easily took the win. Nick was in a battle with Nicolas with the latter trying to put pressure on Nick but Joosens was in a good shape and managed to keep the 2nd place while Nicolas came in 3rd.
As Oilver already snatched the overall win he sat out the final leg and the race was open for Nick and the remainder of the field. From the tone Nick took the lead, closely followed by Nicolas. Meanwhile Rico Claeys and Yves Zoma were in a fight for 3rd place. Nicolas did everything to find a gap to pass Nick but this wasn’t an easy task on the fast track. At the end of the final Nick secured the win with Nicolas in tow while Rico won the fight for 3rd place. The overall result saw Olivier Bultynck (VBC) in 1st place, Nick Joosens (Yokomo) 2nd and Nicolas Delisé (VBC) 3rd.
In the Stock class Geoffrey Vekemans took TQ in front of Olivier Riffon and local Dylan Senaeve. Nathan Cortvriendt was a good 4th on the grid. From the start of the first final Geoffrey was under pressure from Olivier Riffon. Olivier did what he could to pass Geoffrey and with Dylan Senaeve and Nathan Cortvriendt behind him, Olivier had to watch everywhere. Geoffrey made no mistakes and did a clean run to take the win. Olivier made an error at the end but managed to hold his 2nd place. Nathan came in 3rd.
The second leg had a big fight between Geoffrey, Olivier and Dylan. Dylan was pushing hard to overtake Olivier and Olivier did the same on Geoffrey but the latter kept his cool and took the win. Olivier was right behind him for 2nd place and Dylan completed the top 3 of this leg.
The final A-main was the most easy one for Geoffrey. He made a splendid start and lead from tone to tone. Dylan had a jump start while Olivier took the 2nd place in the race. Athan De Witte came from 5th on the grid to take the 3rd place. The overall results had Geoffrey Vekemans (ARC) taking the win from Olivier Riffon (VBC) and Dylan Senaeve (Xray).
In the Formula class Olivier Bultynck was on TQ in front of Steve Deblaere and Krist Bultynck. Michel Mahieu and Jannick Rommens were 4th and 5th on the grid respectively. In the 1st A-main Olivier went away from Steve and Krist right from the start on his way to the win. Meanwhile Steve went wide and Krist took the chance to take 2nd spot. Steve was clearly faster but could not find a gap to pass by. Olivier made a mistake and Krist passed into the lead with a few laps to go. Olivier was pushing with Steve behind him but Krist took the win. Olivier came in 2nd and a disappointed Steve finished in 3rd.
In the second final Steve had a better start. Olivier was in the lead closely followed by Steve. Krist was struggling with grip and Stephane Delisé was running in 3rd place in front of Jannick Rommens. Halfway Olivier made a roll and Steve grabbed the lead. Stephane Delisé rolled also allowing Jannick to jump into 3rd place. Olivier was fighting back and eventually passed Steve to take the win, Steve followd in 2nd and Jannick could take the 3rd place in front of Krist. The overall result saw Olivier Bultynck (VBC Lightning) taking the win from Steve Deblaere (VBC Flash) and Krist Bultynck (VBC Flash).
