Helge Johannessen wins 1:12th at Norwegian series Rd5

The final round of the Norwegian electric on-road series was held in Gjøvik with a good turnout as it was the last race of the season. The race format saw three rounds of qualifying with the best to count, followed by triple A-mains. In qualifying Helge Johannessen set the TQ time in the second round while Lars Haugen and Øyvind Stusdal were to decide who would start second on the grid for the finals in the last remaining qualifier. Both started off following each other closely and changed positions multiple times and at one point Øyvind had a incident with a slower car and would later have to retire handing Lars the 2nd spot on the grid thanks to a secure run.

In the first A-main Helge made a solid run to take the win two laps in front of Lars. Øyvind struggled with a tweaked car and could not keep up with Lars and finished third.

In the second final the three first cars where following each other closely from the start. Helge then opened a small gap as Lars would have to defend against a hard charging Øyvind who then got past as Lars made a rare mistake. Øyvind was now running 2 seconds behind Helge, who did not manage to pull further away but Øyvind made a mistake in the closing laps allowing Helge to win the final and with it the race. Øyvind would finish second with Rolf Dahl in third.

In the third final Helge made a mistake in the early laps allowing Lars and Øyvind to pass him. After some close fighting Øyvind got past Lars and built a two second lead. With two minutes to go a tape came loose on the track, challenging the driver’s concentration. Øyvind lost his cool – placed his car in the barrier and retired from what would have been an epic battle with Lars, who would win the final with Bjørn Dahl second and Trygve Bull Freng third.
