Alex Zanchettin wins Italian 1/8th off-road nationals

The 4th and final round of this year’s Italian 1/8th off-road nationals took place at the “Ongaroring” in Sacile in Northern Italy. The free practice sessions of the F1 category had young Davide Ongaro (Mugen) clocking the fastest times followed by Alex Zanchettin (TLR) and Riccardo Berton. Marco Baruffolo (RB) and Riccardo Rabitti (Radiosistemi) completed the top 5.

After qualifying Davide Ongaro was still on top of the time sheets, again followed by Alex Zanchettin, his closest competitor. Marco Baruffolo ended the qualifying in 3rd spot while Alessandro Stocco (TLR) and Federico Sala (Mugen) came in 4th and 5th respectively. After the semifinals Alex and Davide swapped positions, having Alex starting from the pole position into the final. Both Alex and Davide looked like they would battle for the whole 45 minute final as none of the other drivers was in the position to challenge the two. 27 minutes into the final disaster stroke for Davide when he had to end his race with an engine problem. This ultimately made way for Alex who cruised to the victory that also meant the win of the overall championship.
