Dutch 1/8th on-road nationals Rd4 - Report

This past weekend the 4th round of the Dutch 1/8th scale nationals was hosted by the friendly people of the Model Auto Race Genk club in Belgium. The weekend was characterised by the weather. Saturday’s practice was pretty much washed away by the rain with only two dry hours at the very end of the practice. Sunday started dry, but after the 3 qualifying rounds it started to rain again.

The Nomac Cup final was pretty interesting, it started on a wet track, but at the end of the 30 minutes final the surface was almost dry. This lead to a historical first time win of old timer Peter van Marion, followed by one of the youngest drivers, Jesse Keller in 2nd place and Benny Ciere who took the 3rd spot.

The NK class final started on an almost dry track, and it was a very exiting and close race between John Lenaers and Günther van Staey. Günther started from pole and steadily increased his lead to half a lap after 15 minutes. Then Gunther had to pit for fuel and tyres and John Lenaers was able to grab the lead as he only pitted for fuel. Günther then started to chase John and after a few minutes Günther was only 5 seconds behind John. With only 4 minutes to go both drivers came in for their final fuel stop and shortly after Günther took over the lead and increased it to 5 seconds over John to take the 3rd victory in the 2014 season.
