Jörn Neumann makes it two at 2014 Euros

After winning the 2WD class at this week’s EFRA Electric Buggy European Championships Team Durango’s Jörn Neumann also won the 4WD class. The qualifying saw Jörn walking away with the TQ from Yokomo’s Lee Martin and Team C’s Hupo Hönigl. Kyosho’s David Ronnefalk had a better qualifying than in the 2WD class with a 4th place overall whole Team Associated’s young Joona Haatanen completed a top 5 result that saw five different chassis manufactures battle for the top spots. Robert Battle (Yokomo), Daniel Kobbevik (Team Associated) and Michal Orlowski (Team Durango) put their buggies on 6th, 7th and 8th on the grid while Tom Cockerill (Schumacher) and Ellis Stafford (TLR) made for seven different brands in the top 10 qualifying result.

In the opening 4WD A-final Jörn Neumann soon made his intentions clear to grab the 2nd title of the week by taking the leg with an 18 lap run from former Team Durango teammate Hupo Hönigl who finished only 0.2 seconds on front of Lee Martin who had a bit of a nightmare run. Joona swapped places with David Ronnefalk who finished 5th in the run.

The 2nd A-final again saw German ace Jörn excel. The Team Durango driver took it easy while trying to separate from a chasing Lee Martin. Neumann soon shifted into second gear leaving Lee behead who now had to cope with a chasing triple of Hönigl, Ronnefalk and Haatanen. A small bobble of Jörn disturbed Lee and while Hupo was also in the mix David found a way past the duo into 3rd place. After several more position changes Jörn was able to pull away from the carnage and to win the 2nd leg with a 5 second margin on Lee Martin and Joona Haatanen while Robert battle moved up to 4th and Hupo only finished in 5th. With the win in A2 Jörn early added another Euros title to his already impressive trophy portfolio.

For the 3rd final Jörn opted to not to start to have Lee, Hupo and Joona battle for the runner-up spot. Lee then took a convincing win from tone to tone while Joona Haatanen completed the final A-main in 2nd place. Hupo came in 3rd some 3 seconds behind Joona to take the 3rd place overall behind Lee Martin.
