Belgian SCT Cup Rd5 – Report

The 5th round of the Belgian SCT Cup was organised by the the Buggy Racing Tournai Club and run during an RC show in Enghien. A purpose-built grass track was laid out in the middle of a park, in front of a castle. The nice surroundings and a track layout appreciated by the racers made the show for more than 4000 visitors with the club being rewarded by the highest attendance ever in the cup’s Pro2 class.

In Pro2 qualification, Nicolas Evens (TLR) took full advantage of his mid-motor converted truck and he took the first two qualifying rounds with a big margin on the rest of the field. Championship leader, Philippe Hautecoeur (Team Associated), took the third leg and ensured himself the runner-up spot. Nicolas Grandibleu (TLR) ended up 3rd overall on the grid.

In Pro4, Thierry Matthieu (Tekno) continued to dominate as he took the first two qualifiers ahead of Nicolas Evens (TLR). Philip De Keersmaecker (Tekno) won the final qualifier to start from 2nd spot.

Just before the finals, a shower made the track slippery making things difficult for the mid-motored drivers. In the opening A-final, Nicolas Evens was able to convert his TQ in a win. Edouard-Benoît Michez (Team Associated) showed a great pace and he went up from 5th to 2nd, followed by Tom Pierard (TLR). The second leg again saw Nicolas taking the win, this time ahead of Philippe Hautecoeur, who recovered after a difficult start. Tom Pierard came in 3rd. Nicolas opted to sit the 3rd A-final and this time is was Tom Pierard who won ahead of Philippe Hautecoeur. The win marked the first A final win for Tom, well done and it also secured him the runner-up spot in front of Philippe.
