Pedro Rombouts wins Dutch nitro on-road nats Rd5

For the 5th round of the Dutch 1/10th nitro on-road nationals the whole entourage moved to the MRG Genk track in Belgium. It was the first time the Dutch nationals raced on this track and most drivers soon found a good rhythm. In qualification Ricardo Hofmeijer clocked the fastest time with 51.6 seconds for three consecutive laps, handing him the TQ spot for the main final. Behind him both Pedro Rombouts and Daan Stuiver managed to get 51.7 seconds, placing them 2nd and 3rd on the grid respectively. In 4th Roy Bakker took the last direct spot to the main final by achieving a time of 51.8 seconds.

The start of the final went well as most of the front runners stayed very close together during the first couple of laps. In lap 6 Pedro was able to pass Ricardo for the lead with both of them as well as Daan still being a close pack for the next few minutes. During the first pit stops Ricardo was struck by a flame out, putting him far down the order. Meanwhile Pedro had a small collision with a backmarker, handing the lead to Daan. Within 3 minutes Pedro was able put himself into the lead again. Pretty soon after the second fuel stops Pedro was off for a lonely race through a troubled field. After 30 minutes he ended up winning the race with a 5 lap lead, pulling 101 laps in total. Behind him youngster Milan Holthuis had a clean race, finishing 2nd with 96 laps. Back from his early troubles, Ricardo came up short 2 seconds to Milan, also completing 96 laps. Pieter Bottema in 4th still did 95 laps.
