Belgian SCT Cup Rd6 – Report

Round 6 of the Belgian SCT Cup took place at the famous MBV Kampenhout track. Being used to organise national and international events the club provided a perfect organisation and an awesome astroturf track. As usual the day started on a wet and slippery track but in time for the first qualifier the track had dried, offering tons of grip. In the Pro2 class, Nicolas Evens (TLR) swept all four qualifiers, being the only driver to make 12 lap runs in each round. The following three drivers on the grid all scored a 2nd and 3rd place as best results but the fastest time handed Julian André (TLR) the runner-up spot on the grid, ahead of Laurent Halluin (Team Associated) and Philippe Hautecoeur (Team Associated). Pascal Bouffioux (Team Associated) completed the top 5 in the 2WD class.

In Pro4 championship leader Thierry Matthieu (Tekno) faced great competition from the two local drivers Sam Puttevils (TLR) and Walter Grauwels (Team Associated). Sam won the opening three rounds of qualifying but the fourth saw a great battle between him and Thierry who took the round and the overall TQ with less than a second in front. Walter ended up 3rd followed by Philip De Keersmaecker (Tekno) and Christophe Leurquin (Tekno).

In the Pro2 class A-finals Nicolas Evens made a clean sweep to take the day’s win by coming in 1st in A1 and A2. Behind him, young Mathis Meynaerts (Team Durango) had a great opening leg by taking the runner-up spot coming from 7th on the grid. Laurent Halluin and Pascal Bouffioux came in 3rd and 4th respectively. A2 and it was Julian André who was able to defend his 2nd place from the chasing Laurent Halluin and Philippe Hautecoeur. The final A-main had Nicolas sitting out the leg as he already took the overall win. Julian then made maximum use of the situation, taking the win in A3 to grab the overall 2nd place spot. Mathis ended the final in 4th place, enough for him to take the final podium spot.

In the Pro4 class Sam Puttevils converted his TQ into a win by taking the first two A-finals. The first one was a pretty close affair with the second being a bit more comfortable for Sam as Thierry faced traffic issues. The latter got his revenge in final round which he took ahead of Sam. Behind the two Walter Grauwels took two 3rd place finishes to complete the podium.
