Kerry & Beal win at BRCA Rd6 in Halifax

Kerry & Beal win at BRCA Rd6 in Halifax

Last weekend the Halifax Track in Yorkshire hosted the sixth round of the BRCA 1/10th IC Championship. The Saturday free practice started out damp but quickly dried allowing fast laps to be set. Mark Green led the way in the 200mm class with his Serpent 748 Natrix ahead of the European Junior Champion, Alex Thurston, with his Serpent 747. Joe Kerry was very close behind, running his Serpent 748 Natrix for the first time. In the Sports GT class, again Glyn Beal was setting the pace with his new Serpent 748 Natrix with Peter Hellawell and Paul Bellinger his closest competitors with their Serpent cars.

Four rounds of qualifying and finals were set for the Sunday. Alex Thurston posted the fastest run in Round 1 of the 200mm class with Glyn fastest in Sports GT. The pair both topped Round 2 for their respective classes with Glyn going faster but Alex just 4 tenths of a second slower. Joe Kerry and Paul Bellinger went fastest in Round 3 after both Glyn and Alex ran out of fuel whilst on quick runs. In Round 4 Mark Green posted a new fastest run to snatch the overall TQ of the 200mm class and Glyn topped the Sports GT class once again to secure the TQ.

The 200mm final saw Mark Green lead the grid away with Alex Thurston and Simon Wood in tow. Alex dropped back at around the 5 minute mark allowing Simon into 2nd and Peter Hastings into 3rd. Alex would regain 2nd for a brief period until he again dropped back just before the second round of pit stops. With Mark out in front, Simon holding 2nd position and Alex in 3rd approaching the half way point, Joe Kerry would take 3rd position after a dire start which saw him running at the back of the field. Mark would have a small problem which dropped him into 3rd within the last 10 minutes of the race and then Joe would move to the front on Lap 86 of 105. Joe would take the win by just 1 second after the half an hour final with Mark recovering to 2nd and Simon Wood in 3rd.

In the Sports GT final, Glyn Beal dominated from start to finish. The battle for 2nd however was a bit more uncertain with Devendra Mahatme and Adam Crossland holding the podium positions at the start. Devendra dropped back meaning that Phil Edwards would move into 3rd until Lap 5 when Peter Hellawell took back the position after a rough start. Peter would then take 2nd place at about the 5 minute mark and unfortunately Adam would retire just before the 10 minute mark with a broken belt meaning that Paul Bellinger would take 3rd. After a race long battle for 2nd position between Peter and Paul, Peter would eventually take 2nd and Paul 3rd.
