Following our exclusive Xray T4’15 presentation in the form of an in-depth interview with Martin Hudy and hot on the heels of our article about the making of the 2015 specification car we now have the official release available. The car is based around an all-new main 2.2mm thick chassis that is 3mm narrower for now being only 86mm wide. The chassis was designed to accommodate the new motor mount as well as the included ARS rear suspension system – two of the most significant changes with the 2015 model.

The redesigned motor mount is now part of the left hand layshaft bulkhead to eliminate unwanted tweak. The motor mount is connected to the chassis by two screws under the layshaft with the front mounting system being a new feature that consists of a plate which is connected with the motor mount by a button-head screw to ensure the system as tweak free as possible.

The motor mount plate is connected to the chassis via a M3 nut and an extra countersunk screw can be placed in front of the nut if more reinforcement is needed.

One of the most important features on the T4’15 is the ARS Active Rear Suspension system that allows to create a “steering” rear end in corners in order to gain more side bite and traction depending on the setup. As Martin Hudy explained in our exclusive making off the multiple adjustment features of the ARS allow the suspension to increase or decrease the toe-in angle for improved corner speed while a standard rear setup is also included in the kit if drivers which to use a conventional rear end.

Also new for 2015 are redesigned bulkheads with ball-raced anti-roll bars, and updated upper bulkhead covers that have an extra short camber link position added for improved steering up front and more traction in the rear making it now four different inner link positions.

Part of the updated setup are also new, wider 1.4mm front and 1.3mm rear anti-roll bar wires while a newly designed arm-sided mounting system allows for easier height adjustment using a 2mm hex driver.

To overcome reliability issues with the floating servo mount Xray include an updated design that makes use of a total of six screws with three fasteners connecting the inner aluminium mount to the chassis while three more screws are used to mount the carbon fibre brace. The updated design should now also withstand even harsh impacts into wooden track barriers and the like.

Another reliability feature is the upper bumper holder with a composite backstop that keeps the front part of the chassis from cracking in severe front impacts. Last but not least do reinforced front spool outdrives find their way into the 2015 kit for improved durability and a more direct power supply.

Several features of the previous car have been taken over for the T4’15 such as the proven suspension geometry, 1-piece front and split RF suspension mounts, I.S.S. suspension bushings for the suspension geometry, spring steel driveshafts front and rear, multiple chassis stiffness settings from stock as well as low profile aluminium shock absorbers and shock towers. The kit will become available very soon.
