TopRC Winter Electric Series Rd1 – Report

The first round of the TopRC Winter Electric Series was held with around 50 drivers in attendance at the Genius Ring indoor facility. The event attracted a good amount of local talent and also some internationally experienced racers such as 2014 Large Scale European Champion BA Arnaldi as well as 2014 ETS Stock and European Stock Champion Marek Cerny beside former European 1/8th Champion Jernej Vuga. The weekend started with free practice on Saturday with one round of controlled practice followed by three rounds of qualifying kicking off the Sunday.

In the 1/10th Modified class Alojzij Osvald (Xray) scored the fastest times followed by Domen Lipnik (Serpent) and multiple 1/5th scale Euros finalist Dario Veseli. Behind the three Matej Miklavec (Xray) lined up in 4th after the qualifiers. The 1/10th 13.5T class saw a very tight battle for the TQ and later the overall win. Marek Cerny (Xray), BA Arnaldi (Xray) and young Andrea Ghilotti (Xray) finally made up the top 3 after the qualifiers with Edoardo Repetti completing the top 4. In the 1/12th Open class Jerney Vuga posted three TQ runs to hand him the overall TQ from Michael Holler, Marcic Nejc and Bernd Koller.

The opening A-main of the Modified TC class had TQ holder Alojzij Osvald taking the win from Domen Lipnik and Dario Veseli in 3rd place. The second main again was dominated by Alojzij with Dario and Domen swapping places this time. With Alojzij taking the overall win early the final A-main would decide the runner-up spot between Dario and Domen. At the end Domen would finish 2nd to take the 2nd place overall followed by Dario who came in 3rd in the final A-main.

The opening A-main of the 13.5T Stock class saw a surprise win of Andrea Ghilotti after both Marek Cerny and BA Arnaldi hit mechanical problems. Makrek suffered from a crash that damaged and tweaked his car while BA was hit by a broken servo. Edoardo Repetti came in 2nd in the first A-main while Alessandro Arisi rounded out the top 3 so far. The second A-main then saw BA taking the win in front of Andrea while Marek had to retire around the 5 minute mark as a result of the damages his car suffered from in A1. Arisi came in 3rd in this second leg. The final A-main would then decide on the overall win. BA started well into the final main and he took the lead while Marek and Andrea battled for 2nd until both touched and Andrea went off the track. It looked like BA would take an easy win but issues on BA’s car allowed Marek to catch up and when both collided later in the race Andrea Ghilotti slipped into the lead to take the win in the final A-main. The 2nd place went to Arnaldi with Edoardo Repetti rounding out the top 3.

In the 1/12th Open class it was Jernej Vuga who dominated the opening two legs to take the overall win early, allowing him to sit out A3. The win in the final round went to Bernd Koller who grabbed the runner-up spot with Nejc Marcic rounding out the top 3 result.
