2015 Masters of Foam race – Report

This past weekend the 2015 Masters of Foam race was held at the RC Nuclea Club Mol in Belgium with drivers from Belgium, the Netherlands, Germany, France, Estonia, Great Britain and Luxembourg in attendance. The 75 entries limit for the 1/12th and World GT classes was quickly reached with the 1/12th 10.5T Stock class being the most popular category with 55 entries.

The qualifying in the fastest indoor RC class, 1/12th Modified, was an affair between Yokomo driver Daniel Sieber and On-Point driver Markus Mobers. Daniel was in great form and took the TQ spot by 1.5 seconds from Vice-European champ Mobers. European A-finalist Arnaud Lemperiere took 3rd on the grid from On-Point’s Adam Catchpole and VBC driver Oliver Bultynck.

The race for the win in the finals was wide open as Mobers took the win in the first A-main from Lemperiere and CRC driver Laurent. At the start of the second final Mobers made a mistake and found himself dead last. Sieber drove a clean final and took the win from a fast recovering Mobers. Alex Laurent again grabbed the 3rd spot. The third and decisive final saw a clean start and Sieber and Mobers quickly pulled away from the field to offer some spectacular and thrilling 7 minutes for everybody. Sieber and Mobers were never covered by more than two to three tenth of a second for the entire time. Daniel Sieber was able to withstand Mobers’ pressure in style, Markus tried hard, but could never found a way past. At the 7 minute mark Markus tried to attack harder and was on Sieber’s tail but all of a sudden an electronic failure stopped Mobers, allowing Yokomo driver Sieber to cruise to a well deserved win.

The 3rd spot went to Xray driver Jörg Tiit, who travelled all the way from Estonia to Belgium. In 4th it was Vantomme driver Thomas Stockmann, who just qualified in front of On-Point driver Robert Krens.

In the triple A-mains Alex Laurent checked out from the rest of the field at the sound of the tone and he took a dominant overall victory. The race for the remainder of the podium spots was wide open and the racing was super close and in the end Steven Koiter was able to come in 2nd, followed by Jörg Tiit in 3rd.
