F1ItalianSeries GP13 & 14 – Report

F1ItalianSeries GP13 & 14 – Report

Last weekend the F1ItalianSeries left the city of Rome for a maiden race at the beautiful track of the Rce Model Tuscia in Montefiascone. The track proved to be quite narrow and a sequence of fast and slow corners made it very difficult to learn as well. The 1-day event on Sunday started off with very good weather and the qualifying of GP 13 in which all 16 drivers made the Q1 with the 10 fastest drivers proceeding to Q2 to set the best time and hunt the pole position. At the end it was Davide Morgani (Renault) who took the pole from 2nd placed Manciocchi (Hesketh), 3rd was Lenci (Aguri), 4th Giorgio (Hesketh) and 5th Nicosanti (Lotus).

F1ItalianSeries GP13 & 14 – Report
The GP13 race started with a crash of Morgagni and the group of three drivers Manciocchi, Lenci and Nicosanti were immediately faster than the others as they opened a gap on the field. At the end of the second lap the Lotus of Nicosanti would take the lead and he also managed the two obligatory pitstops without problems to take the win. The 2nd place went to Morgagni who was able to close the gap and make an unexpected podium finish after his early crash. The podium was rounded out by 3rd placed Giorgio (Hesketh). Lenci had to retire due to electrical issues. Force India driver Fabri and Riga (Toro Rosso), with the latter scoring the first points of the season, also had a good race.

The Qualifying for the GP14 round was about the same as GP13 with the only change in the top positions being 3rd placed Bagagli Alessandro with his Fenix (Mercedes). The start of GP14 then was pretty astonishing as all 16 cars on the track took off without making contact. Immediately Morgagni (Renault) and Manciocchi (Hesketh) were able to separate themselves from the remainder of the field. A short battle for 3rd between Bagagli and Nicosanti ended with the Lotus driver coming out successful. The race was decided at the last lap when Morgagni overtook Manciocchi to win the GP in front of Manciocchi (Hesketh) and 3rd Nicosanti (Lotus).
