JConcepts Spring INS – Spencer Rivkin interview

JConcepts’ Jason Ruona had an in-depth interview with one of the biggest rising stars in the game, Spencer Rivkin. With much to talk about, find out what’s on Spencer’s plate as he answers some of Jason’s questions at the JConcepts’ Indoor National Series round 2 at Tacoma R/C Raceway.

Jason Ruona: Spencer, you are a fresh face in the R/C scene and you’ve had a great start to 2015. Reedy Race, Nitro Challenge, Cactus Classic and then the Stock Nats at OCRC … You have been on quite a roll while impressing many people. Are you surprised by your success or are you hungry for more?

Spencer Rivkin: I’m confident in my equipment, so I not surprised but yes, I am very hungry for more.

JR: At the Nitro Challenge you made the A-main after bumping in with a great race in the B-main. How do you feel about nitro racing and are you looking forward to more of it?

SR: Yeah, it was a blast. I’m really excited and ready start racing nitro. The prototype buggy that we’ve been running is extremely good and easy to drive. I can’t wait to get my hands on the production car.

JR: Recently you TQ’d and won the Stock Nats at OCRC and did it quite convincingly against some great talent. Did you do anything special to prepare or build a new kit?

SR: No, I built the new B5m Factory Lite with a few factory team options like titanium screws, aluminum hubs and arm mounts and it was ready good.

JR: There is so much excitement in the Stock classes about weight and light-weight products. How concerned were you about weight and what steps did you take to make sure your gear was up to speed?

SR: I wasn’t concerned about the weight because Team Associated configured the Factory Lite car and it was good right out of the box. Also having the Reedy electronic was a big bonus. Thanks to Sean C for the support at the event.

JR: You are a local racer in Arizona who practices and works hard on a weekly basis. After school, how much time do you spend wrenching on a typical week?

SR: 3 to 4 times a week. Making sure my equipment is in the best shape as possible.

JR: I’ve seen a lot of questions from drivers asking what body is preferred on the B5M. Can you explain the difference between the Silencer and Finnisher?

SR: Both body’s are really good. I thought that the Finnisher body was better when you needed more initial steering. For the Silencer body which lately I’ve been running. It has a more of a precise steering feel.
