Martijn van der Heijden wins at Onroad Piston Cup Rd1

This past weekend the first round of the Onroad Piston Cup was held at the the Raco2000 track in Utrecht, The Netherlands. The race started on Saturday in cold but dry conditions and the damp track would soon start to dry, allowing for good practice conditions. On the weekend the club also hosted the second round of the German LeMans Series so all drivers had the chance for some timed practice too. On Sunday the racers were greeted by a sunny sky, almost no wind and a dry track. Racing was mainly down to the guest Pro10 LeMans series cars and the Formula class as there were no entries for the 1/8th and 1/10th nitro classes with the 1/5th scale Touring class also only attracting two drivers.

In the Formula class Martijn van der Heijden (Xray) grabbed the overall TQ after winning all three qualifying rounds from Ralf Giangotti (Xray) and Donny van der Kogel (Xray). In the finals Martijn continued were he stopped after the qualifiers and so he won the first two 10 minute A-mains after some nice fights with Ralf and Donny to grab the overall wins early. For the third and final A-main Martijn changed some settings in order to try a different setup but after around 8 minutes a rear tyre came loose, allowing Ralf to take the win from Martijn and Donny. Overall behind Martijn, Ralf would grab the runner-up spot from Donny in third. Round two of the Piston Cup will be held on the 26th of June.

Thanks to Martijn van der Heijden for the report.
