Belgian SCT Cup Rd6 – Report

Belgian SCT Cup Rd6 – Report

The penultimate round of the 2016 Belgium SCT Cup was hosted by the Buggy Club Seraing. After losing their previous track as the rental contract was not renewed, the club set up a great temporary track including rostrum, catering and a really nice layout. Unfortunately, as in far too many occasions this year, the weather is not with the organizers and drivers and the day would start under rain. Thankfully the wet stuff stopped before the qualifiers but came back in time for the finals, making the race really challenging for both men and machines. The opening qualifier of the Pro2 class saw Géry Ledocq (Kyosho) and Nicolas Evens (TLR) having a close run, separated by one tenth of a second at the end of the 6 minutes race. Stéphane Vanyper (Team Associated) was already 10 seconds behind. For the second round Géry found lots of pace and he took a clear win ahead of Nicolas and fast newcomer Didier Delférière (Kyosho). In last round, the scenario up front was pretty much the same while youngster Guillaume Laffut (TeamC) took a brilliant third place to line up third on the grid behind Géry and Nicolas.

In Pro4 Nicolas Evens (TLR) swept all qualifying rounds to take the pole position from Sam Puttevils and Sam Damman (both TLR).

The opening Pro2 A-main saw Géry taking off with no problem, avoiding the usual first lap incidents while Laurent Halluin, coming from the 6 spot, was able to take the second place for most of the race. Unfortunately last lap traffic issues having him fall back which promoted Nicolas into second place. A2 was then run on a very wet and slippery track. Géry and Nicolas battled during the whole race, ending up separated by half a second at the end of the 6 minutes race. With the round win, Géry took the overall win with one lap to go and he opted to sit out the third and final A-main to make way for the other drivers to battle for the remaining podium spots. The leg would then see Nicolas taking a tone to tone win, with Laurent and Didier battling fiercely for the second spot. Ultimately Laurent would hold the upper hand to grab P3 overall.

Pro2 A-main top 3:
1. Géry Ledocq – Kyosho
2. Nicolas Evens – TLR
3. Laurent Halluin – TeamC

In the Pro4 A-mains, Nicolas Evens easily confirmed his higher pace and by winning A1 and A2 he checked out early to take the overall win with one leg to spare. Behind him in A1, Sam Puttevils battled closely with Kristof Desmet (TLR) to end up second but Kristof took his revenge in the second final to come in second ahead of Sam Damman. Sam Puttevils then won the final A-main to secure the runner-up spot in front of Kristof.
