Mark Lim wins at NOOB Singapore Open Rd1

Singapore’s longest running electric off-road racing series kicked off at the RaceWorks Arena featuring a large outdoor track with a mixed surface. The hot blazing sun created quite a challenge for all racers as the heat created extremely high grip conditions on the astro-turfed sections and reduced grip where the dirt dried out. During the 4WD Buggy qualifiers, Dennis Chiang, Kum Yew and Mark Lim emerged as the drivers to beat as they battled through all three runs. As the dust settled, Lim secured TQ with Dennis in second and Kum Yew to round out the top 3 on the grid.

Leg 1 of the A-main saw a fierce battle between Chiang and Lim as an early mistake on the massive quad jump by Lim let Chiang get by. After trailing Chiang for several laps, there was some slight contact between both cars on the same jump during which Lim edged ahead. Lim managed to hold off Chiang’s strong challenge till time ran out to take A1. In A2 early mistakes by Kum Yew and Chiang would let Lim build up a significant lead until a wheel nut worked lose in the final minute and ended his chances of an early overall win. This allowed Kum Yew and Chiang a 1-2 finish, forcing the race to Leg 3 before the podium positions could be determined – with all three racers in contention. In A3 Lim would capitalize on errors by Kum Yew and Chiang to pull away early but halfway through the race a charging Kum Yew pulled within a single corner to pressure the race leader. Lim managed to hang on to take the win in this exciting final to take the overall win with Kum Yew finishing second and Chiang completing the podium.
