Xray Racing Series Italy Rd1 – Report

The opening round of the Xray Racing Series Italy was held at the Minirace venue in Casoria with about 60 entries for the five electric on-road classes offered. In the Touring Modified class Alessio Menicucci took a dominant TQ in front of Alessio Mancini and Nicola Marrone. In the finals Alessio Menicucci continued to dominate, taking wins in all three A-mains to snatch the overall victory.

In the Touring Stock Pro class Nico Catelani had mixed qualifying but with a last minute TQ in the final qualifier he was able to grab the pole position for the A-mains. Ultimately he would also bring home the win from local Biagio Esposito and Alessio Valentini in second and third respectively.

In the Touring Stock class run with XRS HW motors, the race was won by Angelo del Prete in front of Mario Piermatteo and Carlo Iovino.

In the 1/12th scale class, with drivers instantly feeling at home on the narrow asphalt track, Nicola Marrone came out fastest after the A-mains from Paolo Spedaliere in second and Fabio Domanin third.

Finally in the highly competitive Formula class it was Matteo Berlincioni who took the TQ but it was Alessandro Manciocchi who won the opening final, making things interesting for the remainder of the legs. In A2 Berlincioni stroke back with Manciocchi finishing in second place meaning the decision for the overall win would have to wait for the third and final A-main. At the start of the deciding leg Berlincioni and Manciocchi made contact after Berlincioni nearly spun out at the hairpin and when another driver crashed into Berlincioni he had to retire meaning Manciocchi would be able to cruise to the win from Matteo Berlincioni second and Alessandro Marinucci third.
