BRCA Touring Car Series Rd3 – Report

Mixed weather conditions was the challenge for drivers at round three of the BRCA Touring Car Series, held at the Stafford track, with rain disrupting most of the morning’s qualifying runs and with Saturday’s practice held in the dry sunshine, this left drivers with little track data going into the meeting. Modified class championship leader, Olly Jefferies saw off a strong challenge in qualifying to take TQ with his Xray ahead of Chris Grainger’s Team Associated with Alex Gardner getting his best run at a UK national lining up third for VBC.

Jefferies took both legs of the A-final and in doing so wrapped up the 2017 title with two rounds still to go, the win also saw him maintain his impressive record of winning every UK touring car meeting he has raced at so far in 2017. Outgoing Modified champion Chris Grainger finished 3rd with his Team Associated team mate Alan Bickerstaff taking a fine 2nd place.

The 13.5 Boosted class saw a new national winner with young Daniel Blake fulfilling a lot of early season promise and delivering his first national win ahead championship leader Zak Finlay and James Hart. Finlay still leads the class going in to round four.

Colin Jackson took the win in the 13.5 Blinky class ahead of championship leader Richard King with Jimmy Maddison 3rd, an Awesomatix 1-2-3. King has been the most consistent points scorer in the Blinky class and takes a ten point lead into the next round. So still all to play for in the Blinky and Boosted 13.5 classes as the championship moves on to the open and fast Halifax track on the 6th August.
