2017/18 Mibosport Cup Rd1 – Report

The opening round of the popular 2017/18 Mibosport Cup kicked off in Hrotovice with 225 entries for the eight on-road and off-road classes. New for this season are a 2WD Stock Buggy and the 1/10th Pan Car class to offer the drivers even more possibilities to show their potential. The weekend started off on Friday afternoon when drivers were able to set up their pit areas and later free and controlled practice was offered to seed the drivers for Saturday’s qualifiers. On Saturday morning a couple of runs were reserved for the drivers who did not made it to the track on Friday and soon after the event officially kicked off.

In Touring Modified, the fastest class of the day, it was Zdenko Kunak (Awesomatix) with the TQ and he also came out on top in A1 and A2 to take the day’s win with one leg to spare, allowing him to sit out A3 and watch the fight for the overall runner-up spot. Ultimately it was Martin Wollanka (Xray) with the overall P2 from Oliver Havranek (Xray), who was in contention for the runner-up spot but a DNF in A2 meant things played for Martin. Behind the three, David Ehrbar (Serpent) and Matej Sulc (Xray) completed the top 5 result.

In Touring Stock it was again Zdenko Kunak (Awesomatix), who returned to RC after a break, with the TQ and overall win, his second for the day. Oliver Havranek (Xray) made it a 1-2 for Slovakia with his overall runner-up spot while Tom Kragefski (Xray) ended the day on the 3 spot. Alexander Mayer finished 4th by keeping 5th placed Andreas Kronsteiner behind.

The Formula class attracted 27 drivers which did not match the popularity of this class. However each of the competitors pleased the eyes of the spectators with their authentically painted body shells making the class a real pleasure to watch. Ultimately it was Thomas Dvorszky with the win from Anna Wysgol, who ditched Modified racing for the Formula class, in 2nd. The 3rd spot on the podium was occupied by Andreas Stiebler who left Herbert Weber and Wolfgang Reichel behind in 4th and 5th.

The maiden 1/10th Pan Car race in the Mibosport Cup saw a great performance of Michael Klausner. Two tone-to-tone victories kept him on top after the finals as Markus Reiser and Mira Jurenka rounded out the top 3 results.

Over in 1/12th Pan Car, 2016/17 dominator Tomas Liptak continued where he ended last season: On top of the field. Laying down a flawless drive he lead the whole field from the beginning to the end. Behind him Matej Sulc and Martin Zvara ended tie on points after the finals and the qualifying results would determine the winner. Ultimately it was Martin in front of Matej courtesy of the better qualifying result.

Over in 2WD Modified Buggy, with 59 entries the most popular class of the weekend, it was Michal Orlowski (Schumacher) with the win in A1. The second main was a different affair though as Kaja Novotny (Xray) came out fastest, however the most dramatic race was definitely A3. Martin Bayer (Xray) went side by side with Michal in the opening stages with the latter ending up side down and it looked like there was no way for him to recover. But four minutes later Michal was sniffing on the tail of Martin’s buggy and while being under pressure Bayer made a small mistake that allowed Michal Orlowski by and Martin would also loose his chances for the runner-up spot which was occupied by Kaja Novotny.

In 2WD Stock Buggy it was Peter Loncsar with a total domination. Making a clean sweep he left no chances for the other drivers and he would take the day’s win from Pepa Vich and Pavel Holcak in 2nd and 3rd respectively.

4WD Modified Buggy was another class with a great attendance. 51 entered filled the field and despite a huge number of drivers the top 4 remained the same after the finals. Adam Izsay (Xray) held onto his 4th position as he did in 2WD while the final podium spot was held by Michal Orlowski (Schumacher). Up front Martin Bayer (Xray) and Kaja Novotny (Xray) battled for the win and although Kaja tried his best it was Martin who prevailed to take the day’s win from Kaja 2nd. The top 5 result was completed by Ales Bidovsky (Xray).
