2018 Speed King Tour Rd1 – Report

The sixth season of the Japanese Speed King Tour kicked off at the Rajiten Nagoya indoor tarmac track in the Aichi prefecture last weekend. The event offered Touring Modified, Touring Stock and Oval class racing and saw the Super Pole format being used for the Mod class, a special 1-lap race that sees the top 5 after the third qualifying round battle it out for the overall TQ spot. The 1-lap time attack race was won by ARC driver Yusuke Goto while the TQ after Q3, Infinity’s Akio Sobue, had to settle for a lower starting position.

Yusuke then also made the hole shot at the start of the single 5-minute A-main as a multiple car crash meant Akio lost even more places. Up front Yusuke kept his position till the finish line as Kazushige Tomita finished 2nd with his Tamiya. 2017 Speed King, Yugo Nagashima, took 3rd for Destiny.

In the Touring Stock main it was 2017 Japanese Stock Touring National champion Takuma Sasaki with the win as the oval class was won by Toshihiro Naito. The next round of the 2018 Speed King Tour will take place at TM circuit Wakayama in the Wakayama prefecture on April 22nd.
