BRCA Electric Touring Nationals Rd2 – Report

Stafford in the heart of the UK was the venue for round two of the BRCA Touring Car series. Heading the Modified challenge was an on-form Olly Jefferies who had enjoyed a dominating win at round one while his domestic challengers in the form of Elliott Harper and Chris Grainger struggled and both these drivers needed a good round two result to get their 2018 challenge back on track. Zak Finlay was also looking to make it two out of two after a win at Cotswolds and he led away the drivers in the 13.5 Boosted Stock class. Blinky 13.5 looked pretty open and now on a track that wasn’t so reliant on power this class looked like it was going to be a close affair with Colin Jackson, Billy Fletcher and pole man from Cotswolds Markus Askell all in the mix.

In qualifying Xray took all three classes, Marcus Askell took Blinky Stock while Zak Finlay topped the Boosted Stock class, in Modified it was close between Elliott Harper and Jefferies but Jefferies made it a clean sweep for Xray with TQ in the Modified class.

The two-leg Modified A was a classic with Harper chasing Jefferies, in the first leg Olly had a half spin at the midway mark and the error let Harper through for the win. Leg two and no mistakes from Olly as he took the second leg, overall the victory went to the Schumacher of Harper based on a faster leg one time, Team Associated’s Chris Grainger lacked a little pace all weekend and had to settle for 3rd.

Nobody was able to challenge Zak Finlay and he made easy work of both legs of the Boosted Stock A-final scoring a convincing win for Xray, two second places for Schumacher’s James Hart saw him take the runners up spot ahead of team mate Chris Gunter.

The blinky A-final was a tough hard fought affair and coming out on top was a constant Colin Jackson ahead of Billy Fletcher and a fast improving Alex Brocklebank.

The next round sees the championship at its midway point and that meeting is at the West London Racing Centre next month.
