Last Sunday the fourth round of the Portuguese Regional’s was held in the Circuito Automodelismo do Funchal. In the Main Final the hot temperatures meant that the engines would not last the 5 minutes for refueling and the track asphalt was at 68º Celsius, so tire wear was the big issue, Mugen Driver Luis Cortez was on pole and needed the victory to become regional champion, Serpent Driver and Defending champion Duarte Faria was starting from 9th position. Ten minutes into the race and the two drivers were fighting for the lead and the championship, with drama a few laps later when Duarte Faria had a flame out and lost some time. Luis Cortez also made a mistake and the fight was on again until 2 laps from the end, Duarte Faria run out of rear tires, meaning that Mugen Driver Luis Cortez was the winner of the event and the championship with one round to go, Faria took second and Team Magic Driver Mário Oliveira in 3rd.

Luis Cortez takes the win at 2nd Portuguese Regional
Categories - Events, Gas, National, Racing
Last Sunday the second round of the Portuguese Regionals was held in the Circuito Automodelismo do Funchal. Mugen driver Luis Cortez, took the pole and another perfect win, the temperature variations having a big influence in the outcome of this event with a lot of drivers having engine trouble all weekend, getting the engine perfectly tuned was a challenge. In the main final Team Magic driver Fabio Barros drove a smart race managing the second place of the podium, while Veteran Serpent driver Alcino Camacho, after a difficult year, returned to the podium in 3rd place showing us that experience and know how is far more important than a top engine or chassis.
Thanks to Paulo Rodrigues for the report.

Last weekend saw the opening round of the Swiss Championship take place in Lostallo, home of last year’s World Championships. Qualifying saw Motonica team driver Shasa Lackner take the pole position with a fastest lap of 19.90 seconds, the only driver to go under the magical 20 seconds, to end up 3 seconds clear of 2nd place qualifier Silvio Hächler. Simon Kurzbuch and Luca Martinelli completed the top 4 direct qualifiers following the 7 minute heats. In the final an early problem for the pole man Lackner saw him lose 2 laps as he needed to replace the gearbox, but a determined drive to the end of the 45 minute final saw him claw back the time to win by 1 lap ahead of Silvio Hächler in 2nd and Luca Martinelli in 3rd a lap further back.
