Bill Bridges Benefit race & raffle
We received word from Adam Drake about the Bill Bridges Benefit race that will take place from the 24th to the 25th of June at ‘The Track’ in Carleton, Michigan. The race has been organised to help raise money to pay for medical expenses following Bill’s diagnosis with colon and liver cancer. A long time racer, currently running for TLR Team Losi Racing, Bill is married to Chrissy and has one son, Brayden, who is three years old. Bill recently had a cancerous tumor removed from his colon and has just started chemo for his liver, but with no medical insurance the bills can grow pretty fast. Gualtiero Picco (1940 – 2011)
It is with a heavy heart that we announce the passing of one of the RC Industry’s pioneers, Mr. Gualtiero Picco. The man behind Picco Micromotori, the company he started in the early 80′s, passed away yesterday following a long illness, he was 71. Best known for the engines that carried his name, it was Gualtiero’s passion and constant drive to develop that has, in no small part, shaped the design and configuration of modern day RC engines. A long time Tether car enthusiast, he holds the current World record which he set in 2009 in the WMCR V class, getting his ‘car’ up to a speed of 344 kmh. He is survived by his wife Marisa and two sons Alberto and Edoardo, who carry on the running of the Picco company. Red RC would like to express our condolences to the Picco family.

ROAR suspends ORCA ESCs for six months

As a result of actions that were in direct violation of instructions from a ROAR Executive Committee member, ORCA brand speed controls are not permitted in ROAR sanctioned competition for the next six months. The violation stems from a discussion about the true amount of timing in the second generation of ESC from the brand, in which it was not in compliance with the zero timing specification as indicated in the rules. Given that it was only days before the event, it was instructed that the new ESC and the software could not be used. Upon further inspection, it was determined that the new software was loaded on to the previous generation ESC, in direct violation of the timing rule itself, and the instructions of the Technical Director. The six month suspension will take effect 5/1/11, and assuming a satisfactory agreement can be made before the 11/1/11 expiration, the ORCA ESCs can be considered for use in ROAR competition again.
