Endurance Championship Austria 2015 – Report

The 2015 Endurance Championship Austria was held at the Tirol Ring in Austria last Saturday with 8 teams and a total of 24 drivers in attendance. The practice took place on a very wet track and the qualifying started at noon with team MRC Zillertal I (Egger / Gehrig / Stoeckl) putting their car on the pole position in front of the RC Bike Team (Kranewitter / Wäckerle / Feilner) and the team Fahr(t)raum (Klausner / Klausner / Reiser). The actual race, run over 10 hours, started at 1 p.m. on a drying track. The pole setters started off quick but some 13 minutes into the race the hopes for the overall win went up in smoke due to a motor failure. After a 14 minute break the guys managed to get back on track and they would ultimately finish in 4th place with a total of 1055 laps. Up front the team Fahr(t)raum won the race with 1119 laps, only 3 laps in front of the RC Bike Team with the 3rd placed Geisler Racing Team coming in only another lap down after 10 hours.

Schäfer & Thalheimer win at Central German Champs

Schäfer & Thalheimer win at Central German Champs

Round 3 of the Central German Nitro On-road Championships took place in Kirchhain with a total of 44 drivers in attendance despite the weather forecast being not very good. Luckily the main finals could be raced under dry conditions but the race time was shortened to 20 minutes as more rain was predicted. At the start of the 1/8th scale class 1 finale the track was still wet at some places so everybody was driving carefully. Patrick Schäfer had to start from 6th position as he had a technical problem in the single dry qualifier. Lap by lap he moved up the order and after the first round of pit stops he took over the lead from Peter Poldvere. Without looking back he controlled the race from the front crossing the finishing line 2 laps in front of Peter with Alex Schmitt completing the podium another lap down.
