Midwest Series Rd6/ROAR Region 5 Champs – Report

The nitro season in the U.S. is drawing to an end and the Tri-State Radio Controlled Auto Racers hosted a dual event at their facility located at the Hamilton County fairgrounds, in Cincinnati Ohio. The race was the season finale for the 2016 Midwest Series as well as the 2016 ROAR Region 5 Championship. The fall temperatures were cool and the track would prove to be in prime condition for the final event of the six race series. Going into the event, Lon Burling had already locked down the series championship in 1/10 Sedan as well as Tom Esposito in 1/10 Sedan Masters and Jason Conley in 1/8 Open. The 1/8 Masters title was locked in a dead heat between long time nitro veteran and seven time MWS Champion Rick Davis and Dwight Smith.

56 drivers remain in the running in Las Vegas

56 drivers remain in the running in Las Vegas

The 1:8 Offroad World Championships has been whittled down from its biggest ever entry to the final 56 drivers who will get a chance to race for the sport’s biggest prize in Las Vegas tomorrow.  A day of lower finals at RC Tracks of Las Vegas, the day concluded with the running of the 1/16 finals to decide the 8 drivers who would progress to Saturday’s showdown. In the end the 1/16 finals would produce contrasting winners with World Championship Rookie Colin Herzig winning the first encounter while veteran Billy Easton booked his place with victory of a 20-minute encounter that would end in a driver scuffle between Tanner Denney and Brian Baldo.  Convinced Denney had taken him out of second place with 1-minute to go as the pair ran side by side coming onto the main straight, both IFMAR president Dallas Mathiesen and Darren Bloomfield would have to intervene to keep the Spaniard separated from the American.

Belgian SCT Cup Rd6 – Report

Belgian SCT Cup Rd6 – Report

The penultimate round of the 2016 Belgium SCT Cup was hosted by the Buggy Club Seraing. After losing their previous track as the rental contract was not renewed, the club set up a great temporary track including rostrum, catering and a really nice layout. Unfortunately, as in far too many occasions this year, the weather is not with the organizers and drivers and the day would start under rain. Thankfully the wet stuff stopped before the qualifiers but came back in time for the finals, making the race really challenging for both men and machines. The opening qualifier of the Pro2 class saw Géry Ledocq (Kyosho) and Nicolas Evens (TLR) having a close run, separated by one tenth of a second at the end of the 6 minutes race. Stéphane Vanyper (Team Associated) was already 10 seconds behind. For the second round Géry found lots of pace and he took a clear win ahead of Nicolas and fast newcomer Didier Delférière (Kyosho). In last round, the scenario up front was pretty much the same while youngster Guillaume Laffut (TeamC) took a brilliant third place to line up third on the grid behind Géry and Nicolas.

Andrew Knapp sweeps IIC 1/12th scale classes

This week’s International Indoor Championships was held at its new destination, the Westgate Hotel and Casino in Las Vegas following the demolition of the old and trusted Riviera, home of the IIC for many years. Andrew Knapp would make the triple in the three classes of 1/12th Modified, 13.5T Super Stock and 17.5T Stock. Top qualifier in the Super Stock category and starting a bit further down the order in Mod and Stock, Andrew would take the top spot in the 8-minute Modified A-main from TQ Alexander Hagberg who ultimately finished on the runner-up spot from Keven Hebert in third. Super Stock would see Andrew taking the winning honors from Ray Darroch and Michael Hanulec in second and third respectively and to round out a perfect week Andrew came out fastest in the Stock class, taking the win a lap ahead of Craig Xavier and top qualifier John Wiita.
