Serpent celebrates 35th anniversary

Established as a brand in Heemstede, Netherlands in 1980 Serpent are currently celebrating their 35th anniversary. Having their roots in 1/8th nitro on-road Serpent nowadays offer more than 30 different cars including on-road and off-road, nitro and electric-powered vehicles. An innovator right from the beginning Serpent also developed and introduced new classes such as the 1/10th 235mm and 200mm nitro classes all of which made their first steps on the iconic Heemstede track nearby the office, host of the 1989 IFMAR 1/8th On-road Worlds and Serpent’s test track since the very beginning. Having won countless World, Asian, European and National titles Serpent is looking forward to yet alone four World Championships in 2016 and thus more possibilities to add more prestigious titles to their belt.

Ronald Völker wins at Charity Race 2015

Last weekend’s annual Charity Race, organised by the Team La Gang and hosted by the RC Landia facility in Scandiano, Italy, not only saw the running of a competitive Touring Stock class but the race also attracted some of Europe’s fastest Touring Car Modified racers. Yokomo’s Ronald Völker and Tamiya’s Marc Rheinard would battle for the TQ and while Marc took round TQs in Q1 and Q2, Ronald stroke back in Q3 and Q4 with the two ending tie on points but the better tie-breaker, Ronald only finished in 3rd in Q2, handed Marc the pole position for the triple A-mains. In the opening main Ronald came out fastest one lap ahead of Yannic Prümper (Yokomo) while Marc ended the race in third only 1.2 tenth of a second shy of Yannic. A2 had the top 3 drivers upping their game as Marc, Ronald and Yannic ended the race within 7 tenth of a second. The third and decisive A-main again ended super close with Ronald and Marc separating only 0.6 seconds on the finish line, meaning Ronald would take the overall win from Marc and Yannic. Victor Wilck and Marcel Geiger completed the top 5 result.

Xray Turkey Onroad Championship – Announcement

The Xray Turkey Onroad Championship is a 5-round race series held alternating at the Bursa and Izmir tracks between April and September 2016 with a pilot race taking place on the weekend of the 13th of March in North Cyprus. The championship is run in the four classes of Touring Modified, Touring Stock, 1/8th Nitro on-road and 1/10th Nitro on-road and more information can be found here.

Adam Drake doubles at 11th annual Toys for Tots

The 11th annual Toys for Tots race was held this past weekend at Palm Desert R/C Raceway with some World-class drivers such as Adam Drake, Mark Pavidis, Joseph Quagraine, Richard Saxton, Tyler Brown and Victor Guerrero in attendance. In the 1/8th Expert Buggy class Mugen’s Adam Drake would take the TQ in both rounds of qualifying and he would lead the A-main from start to finish to win the 15 minute encounter by over a lap. TLR’s Mark Pavidis would end the race on the runner up spot from JQRacing’s own Joseph Quagraine in third. In the 1/8th Expert E-Buggy category Adam showed another dominating performance, taking the TQ after the qualifiers and the race win in the 10 minute A-main from Joseph Quagraine (JQRacing) and Dean Rock (Tekno) in second and third respectively.

Protoform WCICS Rd4 – Report

The Protoform Western Canadian Indoor Championship Series was held for the first time ever in the beautiful mountainside wine country of Kelowna, British Columbia. Round 4 was hosted by the KRC Club, with great teamwork and support from all the B.C. clubs for their premier WCICS event. Great weather helped racers from all around Western Canada make the drive, and in their first event ever they had the second highest registrations of any race so far in WCICS 25th season. In the Touring Modified class Xray driver Blake Bell drove his T4 from pole to checkered without looking back-for almost the 9th time in a row, three full events. Awesomatix’ Korgae Scales, driving the new A800 belt car, was in his draft the entire race, just 1 second behind at the line. WCICS President, top privateer Josh Carter, drove his Xray T3 to a solid 3rd.

Apolaro & Toedtmann win at US Nitro World Cup

The annual US Nitro World Cup was held in Kissimmee, Florida with some of the nation’s fastest racers as well as guests from abroad in attendance. In the premier 1/8th on-road class DJ Apolaro and Italy’s Daniele Ielasi battled for the TQ with the better end for DJ who would grab the overall TQ by 3 seconds. In the 1/10th Sedan class the race for the TQ would be between Thilo Toedtmann, Scotty Gray and DJ Apolaro and ultimately it would be Thilo who would grab the overall TQ.

Rug Racers Rd2 – Report

Round two of the Rug Racers series welcomed all drivers with a familiar track and somewhat unfamiliar sound, between the last round the organisers had listened to driver feedback and based on this feedback re-invested the money straight back into a new sound system amongst other more subtle changes including allocated pitting being trialled and a larger rostrum. Controlled practice got underway just after 8 for 11 heats of 4 classes. After a re-sort for those that didn’t show this was reduced to 10 heats. In Open Modified Elliott Harper was clearly then man to beat taking 3 of 4 rounds but with Kyle Branson close behind and Elliot unable to finish round 4 Kyle would take pole position.
