Tekin T8i brushless motor announced

New from Tekin comes the T8i 1/8th buggy indoor brushless motor. It is packed with the same features as the conventional T8 series of motors but the ‘i’ version is lighter of weight and smaller in size helping to lower the vehicle’s weight for a more nimble and agile handling on tight indoor tracks. Sporting a diameter of 38mm and a length of 67mm the motor weights 274g and offers a 6061 aluminium heatsink can, dual plug sensor wire harness, sintered Neodymium magnets and oversized ABEC5 bearings. The T8i will become available as 1350kv, 1600kv, 1950kv and 2700kv variant soon.

Upgrade RC Vortex 10 buggy wing

Upgrade RC introduce their latest off-road rear wing in the form of the Vortex 10. It designed to fit most of today’s 1/10th buggies and sports a unique design with knobbed areas on the outer horizontal parts to improve the airflow over the rear section. Raised slide plates allow for good tyre clearance while the angled ends of the plates bundle the air and increase the stability of the whole wing. Included in the set are two wings, side plate decals and a mounting grid.

Short Course Showdown Rd4 – Report

Holeshot Raceway located in Sanford Florida was the host of round 4 of the 2013 Short Course Showdown Nationwide Tour. With only a month’s notice, Kris James, owner of Holeshot Raceway and his crew got busy promoting the race, updating the layout including making the overall track bigger and a new ramp for the drivers stand. Their hard work paid off with just under 100 entries for this Short Course only event. Friday started off with a full day of practice and the track improved with more traction as the day went on. On Saturday there were three full rounds of qualifying, all qualifiers are heads up with only your fastest round placing you in the mains. After the end of the day, the class TQ’s went to JR Mitch in 2WD Mod, Matt Olson in 4WD Mod and Billy Bruce in 2WD Stock.

Richard Volta wins French 1/8 Nats Rd4

Last weekend the 4th round of the French 1/8 on-road nationals was held under sunny conditions at La Ferriere aux Etangs in the Normandy. In qualifying it was Romain Picard how took TQ honors only 0.7sec in front of Shepherd driver Richard Volta who had to do an additional pitstop for fuel. In the semi finals Richard was the fastest driver on the track leading from the start to the chequered flag taking the pole position for the main final while Romain dropped out in the second semi final as he crashed his car. From the start of the final Richard controlled the race. With fast fuel stops he was able to control the gap to the rest of the field and after 45 minutes he crossed the finishing line five seconds in front of Christophe Aygon with Christophe Louis completing the podium on 3rd place.

Truhe & Drake win at JBRL Rd3

For the third round of the JBRL Nitro Series Jimmy Babcock and the gang loaded up their equipment and headed to Revelation Raceway in Ontario, California. The Revelation Raceway has always been one of the most well know tracks in the area with the largest club race attendances. The track is home to many of the best nitro drivers in the area and people such as TLR’s and Pro-Line’s Mike True and Adam Drake can be found here club racing almost weekly when they are not traveling the world racing their cars. In the Expert Buggy Class Pro-Line’s Mike Truhe took the win with Pro-Line team mate Sean Gaffney taking the third spot on the box. Second place went to Agama’s Andrew Smolnik. In the Expert E Buggy Class Mike True did it again followed by TLR team mate Adam Drake. Wrapping up the third big class of the day was Adam Drake who took the top spot on the box in Expert Truggy followed by Drew Moller and Andrew Smolnik.

Otto Ausfelt wins at Nordic Champs

The Nordic championship for 1/10th 2WD and 4WD buggies was held under the best possible weather conditions and saw TLR’s Otto Ausfelt setting the fastest practice times in the 4WD class. In the qualifiers though Xray’s Kennie Ekenstierna was able to win three out of the four rounds and he therefore took TQ after some close battles with Otto. The finals again had some close racing to offer with Kennie winning the first A final some seven seconds clear of Otto Ausfelt. The second A final went to Christoffer Svensson who came in third in A1. He had Kennie and Otto in tow. This meant the final A main would be the decider of the day as Christoffer, Kennie and Otto all had the chance to climb on the highest step on the podium and at the end Otto was able to take home the win ahead of Kennie and Christoffer. With both Otto and Kennie having one win each and second best for both was a second place it came down to looking at who had the quickest win heat – which was Otto handing him the overall in win the 4WD class.

Austria crucial to Tamiya’s ETS title hopes

The Yokomo Euro Touring Series reaches a crucial stage this weekend (June 14-16) in terms of the title chase between Yokomo and Tamiya as Traiskirchen in Austria hosts the penultimate round of the World famous electric touring car championship. While defending champion Ronald Volker leads the current Ride Modified standings from Yokomo team-mate Yannic Prumper, a recent upsurge in the performance from the Tamiya Racing Factory team that yielded victories at the last two rounds has put their two drivers back into contention for the prestigious crown. However the pressure is on Marc Rheinard and Viktor Wilck to continue that form this weekend if they want to go to the season finale at the Hudy Arena in Slovakia in July with a chance of the title.

FX Engines inside story

Having recently broke cover, new engine manufacturer FX Engines, which is owned and operated by the Hudy family, have made available a nice insight into the production of their first engine. Unlike some other engines brands, the Slovakian power plants are completely manufactured in-house in Europe in order to have full control over the design and the materials used. Started some six years ago, designer Juray Hudy not only changed every piece of the engine multiple times but also twice re-started from scratch to make sure the engines met the company’s strict demands in terms of quality, performance and reliability.
