Toy Fair 2011 – Dirt Champ Design

DCD T:meR unit

Swedish company Dirt Champ Design, who we featured at last year’s fair, are back again this year with their production timing unit. The main box sits at the side of the track with an infrared transponder in the car and as the driver passes by it counts their lap time and displays it on the included timing software installed on a laptop, which makes it great for private testing. At the show they made a number of new announcements, one of them being that they will now sell the unit as a complete track package with 10 transponders along with the timing unit and software. The new improved software will now also be supported on the Mac platform, having been PC exclusive prior to this, and finally they will have a new iPhone app call iLapR that feeds the timing information from the timing laptop to your phone instantly over the internet. Although in the early stages they are also working on spoken lap times that can be transmitted via bluetooth to a headset on the driver, keeping them informed of their progress on track.

Toy Fair 2011 – Robitronic

Robitronic Vision BL 1/8th scale buggy

Robitronic were keeping tight wraps on their all new prototype competition 1/8th scale 4wd buggy, only allowing selective photos to be made. The new car is a completely purpose built platform for the BL class and features some very nice features. The backbone of the chassis plate is an aluminium center strut with angled carbon plates on either side that create a V shape to the bottom of the car for extra ground clearance and better stability in the air. The drivetrain resembles that seen on a modern 1/10th 4wd buggy with an ultra efficient straight shaft configuration that enables a saddle pack mounting configuration to accept two 2S LiPo packs using their neat battery mounting brace system.

Toy Fair 2011 – Gi-Mar

Gi-Mar Mig12X

Italian company Gi-Mar took us aside to show us their latest releases in their engine line for 2011. First up the Mig 12X has a new 11.9mm super balanced crankshaft with 2 weight, in place of the previous 11.5mm version, which has been JP Black coated. Work has also been done to the bell crank which results in a heavier weighted side with the pin side machined to reduce weight, the result of which is higher rpm. This long stroke motor also features a new sleeve with 2 extra small holes below the exhaust port for more power in the bottom end and much easier engine adjustment.
