Is the 1/8th Gas Buggy market flooded?

Market Saturation

On Tuesday I reported about the news that Technokit was to enter the 1/8th scale buggy market. At the time I noted that its a very flooded market and it would be bigger news if a manufacturer stated that they werent going to enter this class. Well i did a little research to follow up on that comment and was amazed to have come up with a list totalling 29 31 manufacturers (that i know of) that currently have, or are close to releasing, a 1/8th scale gas powered buggy. That is a huge number of players all fighting for the same piece of the pie, in a market that is becoming more crowded than a rush hour train in Bangladesh.

Who are these manufacturers and who really is left that can join in? Read More… content

GR Racing tuned OS12TZ

GR Racing OS12TZ

Engine tuners seem to be a dime a dozen these days with anyone who can use a dremel and who has ever taken their engine apart claiming to be a motor maestro. That said, i was impressed with work done by GR Racing, a Korean tuner that takes his dremel and know how to many different types of engines including this OS12TZ 3-port. This engine has had tear dropping done to the liner, ceramic main bearing, crankshaft lightened and modified, crankcase work and even has a job done on the combustion chamber, definitely looks good, the proof of course is on the track.

Check out all the work done in the full picture set on RC Forum who have the scoop.

Technokit to enter the 1/8th buggy market

Technokit Logo

Our partners Neo Buggy have posted on their site the news that Italian manufacturer Technokit are planning to enter the 1/8th buggy market soon. Having already made their name in Fifth scale, dipped their toes into the 1/10th 200mm class and been successful in the 1/8th Rally Game class the next logical move is a step sideways to go off road. With the 1/8th off road market becoming ever more saturated i think it would make bigger news if a manufacturer announced they weren’t going to make a 1/8th scale buggy (and subsequent truggy).

Piktor Rush 2 – First Images

Piktor Rush 2

Here are the first pictures of the all new Piktor Rush 2, the French designed buggy that has been in the pipeline for quite a while now. We reported on Saturday that the car and crew had been testing in Taiwan and that it went very good, well here we have the images from that test. The car has a very unique and very low front and rear shock mounting position, a far forward mounted fuel tank and the car also uses pivot ball suspension in the front. To me it looks very nice, especially with the carbon fibre and because of the lack of large shock towers also looks very strong.

Associated TC5 prototype showing great potential

Associated TC5 prototype - Juho Levanen & Craig Drescher

CML Distribution have a report on their site updating us on the progress of the Team Associated TC5 prototype. This belt drive touring car has been doing the rounds for a while now and it all seems to be paying off with Juho Levanen and Craig Drescher taking 3rd and 4th respectively in last weekends TC Carpet World Cup.

In the early practice run on Thursday and Friday both Associated cars were quickly dialed in to the fast but technical track at the CRF facility, using Novak brushless power Craig’s car looked punchy with good straight line speed, still in its development stage the new car delighted Craig and caused a great deal on interest in the pit area.
