The first Monte-Carlo Cup, of which hopes to become an annual event on the classic calendar was run recently on the La Turbie track in the hills above Monte-Carlo. Qualifying for the event saw an Italian domination with Simone Giordano taking the pole position with his Mantua Intrepid from Motonica driver Emanuele Oberto in 2nd and Nicola Ometto, driving another Mantua in 3rd. With popularity in 1:8 Classic on the up we bring you news of the 2008 Italian Classic 2WD National Championship which was held recently at Riccione where Motonica driver Nicolas Gilioli claimed the title. Driving his Novarossi powered P8 Classic, Gilioli, who qualified third for the 45 minute final, won by 3 laps from the Mantua Intrepid of Massimo Poldi with Top Qualifier Alessandro Pala completing the podium with his Max powered Motonica a further lap adrift. The 3rd round of the French Classic Flat pan chassis National Championships took place in Angouleme last weekend under sunny skies. Following the victory of Gilles Garrigou 1 month previously with the DXF Primo chassis, the RB powered driver was on the pace once more. Qualifying 4th behind Romain Delaunay who was on pole for Motonica, he was able to overtake the challengers in front of him to take the win ahead of Didier Frelat racing the BRX Red Ball, while 3rd position went to current French Champion Bruno Petiot, also driving a DXF Primo….

We’ve only briefly covered the Southern Europe specific Classic 2wd 1/8th scale class before and with the exception of Motonica, who have yet to release their classic model, there are no major manufacturers invloved. Just before the Nürnberg toy fair we showed you the new product range from Motonica which amongst other things included the all new P8.0 Classic, a 2wd flat pan chassis. This was a strange choice of car to start producing, considering the numbers involved in this class which really only exists in the south of Europe, but despite this fact Motonica have created a rather attractive and i’m sure competitive car. Yesterday we showed you a preview of the new cars from Motonica which included the R version of the original P8.0 as well as a Classic class pan car. Well now we get a closer look at the P8.0 base, which i couldnt figure out yesterday, and apparently this car is a cheaper starter car based on the original P8.0 4wd car. Although this car is also 4wd from the pictures it appears to have no suspension and no radio plate and must qualify as one of the strangest concepts for a car that i’ve seen in a while. Hit…
