Serpent 966 braking system details
Serpent have released further details of their soon to be released 1/8th scale chassis, the 966, this time focussing on the cars new braking system. The bracket shown supports the 2-speed shaft on the gearbox side, and together with its left counterpart, make the shaft run 100% true and free. It also supports the ball-raced aluminium hard anodized brake-cam and the spring-loaded brake-assembly which encompass the brake pads that are mounted at the lowest point in the car to keep the centre of gravity at its lowest possible position.

Yep … the Velox is THE innovative and superfast car. But why some companies always have to put their name on each damn f… part? This is not a copy protection at all … just more expensive! But I’m sure that Shepherd has patented their braking system otherwise every company would have been copying it suddenly.

But the quality seems to be awsome on this one, too ;-)

The brakesystem on the Velox is just a copy and a further development of the brakesystem from the SMP-Slide
Regarding these parts, a very difficult design and I think the parts are molded which can give quality problems. More aluminium parts does mean loctite, if not then it can go loose and then the tension on the belt is lost….

Its a nice piece of equipment, and lets not forget that before the Shepard “Standard”, SMP invented the rear brake on the rear pulley with the SMP Slide. And usually form dictates function, just because something may look similar, just means that maybe it is the best way to make something work better. And for one lets all be happy that Serpent is still in buisness as our 1:8 IC Class is not as popular as in the 80′s.
Thank you
