EFRA seeking tire additive manufacturers

EFRA logo

EFRA got in touch with us to ask the different brands of tire additives, who wish to have their product approved for use at EFRA gas on road events next year, to send them samples of their product for testing. At the recent AGM, EFRA made the use of tire additive legal at 1/8th and 1/10th scale gas on road events but they wish to ensure that the treatments used are not volatile or toxic, hence the need for pre approval.

Dear Sportfriend,

At the last EFRA AGM the decision was made to allow tire treatment in a controlled way for 1/10th and 1/8th Track. With ”controlled” we mean that tire additives can be used as long as they are not volatile and toxic. Verification will be done with EFRA equipment at the major races that is capable of indentifying volatile and toxic products (most proberly equipment from RAE) at the entrance op the pitlane. Who ever comes with tires to the pitlane that alarms our equipment will be send back to change his tires.
We also made an agreement that the organizer of an EFRA event must do everything to create grip as much as possible, making the need and use of tire treatment less or even ”zero”.

We also promised to make a list with tire additives that are allowed.

So if you are selling a tire additive product that is not volatile and not toxic you are kindly requested to send us a sample so we can check it. According to the European Regulations you must also have a Material Safety
Datasheet ( MSDS ) from the product you are making or selling. So together with your product we need that Datasheet  as well.
Once approved it will be put on the list.
Be aware that during the season we will constantly try to check approved products to make sure that they confirm to the sample that you have send us.

Samples have to be send to the following address before January 31st 2012:

Franky Noens.

This is the wrong way !

3. Thomas - December 8th, 2011 at 12:24

AGAINST tire treatment too!!!! Completely wrong way….that will destroy both classes. It´s all about the money ;-( Sad, really sad….

4. Roelof - December 8th, 2011 at 13:19

I am also very against it but sadly enough there is no 100% control and the most sad part of all is that you can not trust the drivers. There is where it al started…..

5. skipper61 - December 8th, 2011 at 13:28

There is a 100% control with MiniRAE 3000! We have tested during
the German Championship. The Manufacturer Himself programmed the MiniRae and all Additive`s ar detected!
The Device using by EFRA is not programmed correctly!

Better to allow some additives. If everyone can you additives, you do not have problems to control them. everything goes.

This for sure is one of the darkest moments in the history of the sport.
I know many drivers, including me, who are totally against the use of tyre treatment in IC on road racing.
In Germany many drivers already have announced, that they won’t take part in any international event in the case that tyre treatment will be legalised by EFRA.
There is the Mini Rae device which is capable of detecting almost every forbidden additive and the use of this device proved to work extremely while at both the German Nats in 1/10th and 1/8th some months ago.
To me it still appears unbelievable that EFRA is obviously not willing to tackle this issue in the right way and gives in to the pressure put up by some people which already seem to have a very good knowledge on the use of tyre additives.
We did not need tyre additives in the past 30 years and I’m absolutely sure that we don’t need them for the future too to make for fair and exciting racing.
It’s up to the drivers now to show both EFRA and the industry and to some national federations as well that we don’t want tyre additives in IC on road racing and the only measure to achieve this I can think of at the moment is to call for boycott of every EFRA sanctioned event in 2012.

This device cost about $3,940.00us………………

9. superhero - December 8th, 2011 at 16:36

Definetly AGAINST!

10. eastern - December 8th, 2011 at 16:46

they are going to legalize something that is potentially harmful
I hope they don’t legalize heroin, because its additive

11. Per-Ola Hard - December 8th, 2011 at 17:32

AGAINST!
After 35 years of racing now the nitro On-Road class suddenly needs tire addivites… who´s fault? The cheaters… not EFRA.

Thanks to all cheaters for destroying the nitro racing!

Outcome more work, more time, more money, less fun, less drivers!

THANKS AGAIN ALL CHEATERS WHO MADE THIS COME TRUE!

Ps. In Sweden we will not allow it, as is has worked 35 years without it, instead we will make sure all tracks during big events has good grip.

Let the best chemical engineer win,
Peo Hard

Finaly tire additives in nitro racing

13. Chris - December 8th, 2011 at 18:44

AGAINST!

The device of the German federation defenitely works, all treatments were detected including all Italian ones. It was showed at both German Championships. EFRA just doesn’t want to open their eyes and don’t listen to the German officials of the federation!

14. Einstein - December 8th, 2011 at 19:16

Against!
This is one of the most stupid decision taken by EFRA in recent years. In one end of the spectrum there are talks/decision related to environment, in the other end more chemicals are introduced. I am speechless…. I have lost my confidence in EFRA…. :-(

15. MisterX - December 8th, 2011 at 20:09

@ PerOla
I agree but its definetly EFRAs fault because there is a device which works.
This is the wrong way and we will lose some more drivers, thanks!
No Euros for me in 2012, thanks again!

16. Ralle - December 8th, 2011 at 20:14

AGAINST this rules.
Maybe should stop racing and wait till better rules come ….

17. Josep Mª Franch - December 9th, 2011 at 00:08

Thanks EFRA destroy work of so many people, builders, engineers, and lovers of this hobby legalizing the proceeds of cheats,
Will that be the next? additive for fuel…
money, money, and money is the only thing that matters to them.

18. salam - December 9th, 2011 at 10:54

I LOVE MY FAMILY BETTER THAN MY TIRES

19. Daniel - December 9th, 2011 at 17:58

Year 2011 was the first in which EFRA tried to find a way to detect different types of tire addtives in a reliable way.
Not beeing successfull at once is not a reason to capitulate, but that is what EFRA does! The reliability of MiniRea3000 was proven on both german nationals this year!
And to those who try to bring forward the argument that MiniRea3000 is too expensive:
EFRA has 1502 licenced Drivers, multiplicated with an annual fee of about 30€…. just calculate… I think there is enough money for buying just one device to be capable of detecting tire additives at every IC-Track EC!!!

For me there is no reason anymore to attend international races if preparing tires will be allowed!!!

AGAINST TIRE TREATMENT!!!

20. Mirco - December 9th, 2011 at 20:08

Totally disagree with this new opening to additives!
For me 2012 no international racing any more. This rule change was completely the wrong way and EFRA will see what will happen to this. A loss of drivers at major events, and accusations everywhere to use something illegal. For the future you do not need a pitman any more, you need a chemical engineer who is capable to create the right mixtures directly at the track. We were racing for many, many years without additive and now there is some need for? I do not think so.
EFRA will soon see the outcome of this and I am really happy that in many countries tire treatment will still be abandoned. German federation just bought a MiniRae and it worked really well at the nationals. This has proofed to be a really good way to get rid of the cheaters.

21. Lurifax - December 9th, 2011 at 21:14

This is just plain stupid and shows Mr Graaf and the rest should retire.

22. Merlin - December 10th, 2011 at 00:22

Sorry EFRA, what a dumb decision!
No international 1/8th scale racing this year for me. I hope we can all work together against these ball less guys.

AGAINST TIRE TREATMENT!

23. kedi - December 10th, 2011 at 01:23

so now we have homologated tire additive
no problem, I will move to RC HELI OR BOAT
THEY HAVE NO TIRES

24. Jan Asmer - December 10th, 2011 at 09:15

How stupid… ^_°

25. Pooh White - December 10th, 2011 at 14:34

Just spray the tracks and be done with it!
