DRCMU race Rd5 – Report

The Tinglev Modelbilklub recently run round 5 of the DRCMU series for 1/10th electric on-road classes. It was the fifth race of seven this winter. Tinglev Modelbilklub is a little Danish RC club located in Tinglev in the South of Jutland not far away from the German border. Although a little club, Ti-Mo always manage to get a good number of racers to come to their race in the Tinglevhallen. This weekend made no exception as it brought 90 entries in total, and with 74 touring car racers on Sunday it was the biggest one day 1:10 RC race in Denmark. The 30×16 meters track was equipped with a brand new carpet and a new layout.

On Saturday there was free practice in all the touring car classes, and between the practice heat the Formula 1 race got underway. In the DRCMU series the 21.5T blinky Formula 1 class use a different format that sees three qualifying rounds and a pole race for the A main which is a single fastest lap qualifier for the top drivers. The time reached then decides about the A main starting order. A single 15 minute A main is then raced directly after the pole race. OIe Strandlyst (HPI/Exotek) was the fastest after the qualification but had to start as fifth on the grid, as he had an issue on his pole lap. During the 15 minutes race he managed to claim the top sport again and he won with eight seconds in front of Jan Larsen (Serpent) and Daniel Bjerg (Teamsaxo).

On Sunday morning the touring car race started with two practice rounds, followed by three qualifications rounds and three final legs for all. In the Modified class 17 drivers battled it out and among them were some really fast guys like Patrick Hornum (Serpent) and Mike Gosvig (Awesomatix) as well as Christopher Krapp (Kyosho) and Tim Benson (Xray). The starting grid for the finals saw Christopher, Patrick, Mike and Tim in the top 4 places. In the first final Christopher had some driving errors, letting Mike and also Patrick passed him, while Tim had a DNF. In the second final Christopher won with Patrick in second and Mike in third. Tim was in fourth place and out of the battle for the overall win. The three others however could all take the win in the Modified class with a win in the third finale. The spectators then saw some world class racing in the deciding leg. Christopher and Patrick where on a mission and Mike was not able to follow. In more than four minutes there was never more than half a meter between the Kyosho of Christopher and Patrick’s Serpent. Patrick was a tad faster, but Christopher blocked him in every corner. Patrick tried and tried, but he could not overtake him. So Christopher won the last final in front of Patrick. Afterwards both drivers were thrilled about the race and so were the spectators – simply world class racing. With two wins Christopher won the Modified class in Tinglev. Although Patrick had three second places and was super fast all weekend, Mike got the runner up spot on the podium with his win in the first finale.

They all except of Marco made it into the A main. Patrick sat on pole and Steven was in second place on the grid. Steven then had some bad starts in all final rounds and he ended outside the podium. The third and final podium spot was decided by the tiebreaker and at the end it was Max Körner (Xray) who had he faster run.
