Austrian electric on-road nationals Rd2 – Report

The 2nd round of the Austrian electric on-road nationals was held in Laa a.d. Thaya, Lower Austria. Actually this was the first counted event this year, as the opening round had to be cancelled due to bad weather conditions. Overall 39 drivers signed in for the Touring Car Modified, Touring Car Stock and Formula 1 classes. Good weather conditions and a nice but difficult track layout made for tight racing in the qualification and final rounds.

The Modified Touring class has some exciting racing to offer and at the end it was Dominic Vogl who took the TQ and win with his Muchmore-powered Yokomo BD7, but it was not a straight forward task for him. In the opening A-main Dominic was in a hard fight with 5-time Austrian Champion Martin Schuster (VBC). Both crashed and Jakob Zündel (Yokomo) took the win, coming from 5th on the grid, followed by Dominic and Martin. 2nd on the grid was Mario Sowka (Yokomo), but a few mistakes had him drop back to 5th position in the first leg. The second final was a clear proof of strengths by Dominic, who took the win followed by Mario and Patrik Gollner (Yokomo), who started from the 3rd grid position. In the last final Dominic made everything clear with a perfect run to grab the overall win. The runner-up spot went to Mario Sowka while Jakob Zündel completed the podium.

The second final went to Jan, some 0.13s in front of Matthias, whilst Marcus crashed in the first lap and did not finish the race. Christoph came in 3rd place in the 2nd final. An impressive victory in the 3rd and decisive final from Marcus Galler got him the overall win, Jan Popic finally took the 2nd spot and Christoph Grach finished 3rd overall. The TQ and reigning Champion, Matthias Urban had several mishaps and did not made it on the podium.
