Alberta Touring Series Rd2 – Report

Round 2 of the Alberta Touring Series was held in Edmonton, Alberta. The NASCAR club hosted a great event with 121 entries across six classes. The focus of this new series would be to have fun, keep rules to a minimum, save budget conscious racers some money with less travel and create a friendly provincial rivalry so the format for the weekend would be three qualifiers and triple mains for everyone. In the Touring Car Modified Class, TQ Wayne Mah (Awesomatix) would win all three of his mains in dominating fashion over Steve Soon (Serpent), with Tommy Tam (Yokomo) taking 3rd.

In the Touring Car Stock class with 44 entries, TQ Wayne Mah (Awesomatix) again took convincing wins over Steve Soon (Serpent) to win the class with competitive top privateer Cal Freeman taking a well-deserved 3rd.

The Tamiya Mini class had TQ Ivan Chan and “Mini King” Walter Slany having won one main each took it to the A3, with Ivan beating Walter to the finish line by under 0.2 seconds for the overall win. Local favorite Ryan Berry would have a tough battle also taking it to the A3 to secure the final spot on the podium.

In the 1/12th Scale Stock 13.5 class, top privateer Cal Freeman would take his TQ position and win two mains in dominating fashion for the overall win over Ivan Chan. A 5-way battle for 3rd overall was decided in the A3 final with local Chad Folkerson taking the final spot on the podium.

The Formula class had TQ Ivan Chan and top privateer Cal Freeman winning one main each took it to the A3, with Ivan driving mistake free for the overall win. Cal would finish 2nd overall and Tommy Tam would secure the final spot on the podium.

In the WGT class, run as a demo event, TQ Wayne Mah would dominate qualifying and the first two mains for the overall win. Way Mah and Ivan Chan would battle it out in all three mains with super close racing but Way would prevail in the A3 final over Ivan by 0.2 seconds to secure 2nd and 3rd respectively.
