Kum Yew wins at NOOB Singapore Open 2WD Rd1

The streak of wet weather in Singapore took a temporary break as the sun broke through the dark clouds at last Sunday’s NOOB Singapore Open 2WD electric buggy series round 1 event held at the RaceWorks Arena. The series is the country’s longest running electric off-road event and this race saw a nice spread of racers ranging from some of Singapore’s fastest drivers to newcomers racing for the very first time. After the three qualifiers, Kum Yew took the top qualifier position clocking the only 12-lap run with Mark Lim and Dennis Chiang taking second and third on the grid behind him respectively.

Leg 1 of the A-main saw a nice tight battle between Kum Yew and Lim before electronic issues ended Lim’s challenge with Kum Yew taking the checkered flag well ahead of the field and Lim holding on for a second place. Leg 2 would see some serious déjà vu as the two leaders pulled away from the rest of the field much like in leg 1 only to have gremlins in Lim’s electronics leading to a DNF and handing Kum Yew a strong and dominant win with Chiang in second. With the win in the bag, Kum Yew would sit out leg 3 leaving Lim and Chiang to battle it out for the rest of the podium spots. Leading from tone to tone, Lim would take overall second with Chiang settling for third.

2WD A-main final results:
1. Kum Yew
2. Mark Lim
3. Dennis Chiang
4. Danial Miswan
5. Danny Png
6. Dominic Quek
7. Ben Chua
8. Fazly
9. Thomas Teo
10.Lee
