Serpent 966-E BL 1/8th scale on road chassis

Serpent has announced that they have developed the first purpose made 1/8 scale electric on road car. Based on the highly successful Serpent 966 platform, sharing its main components, but the center section is completely different and is reserved for the electric components. It features a purpose designed nylon bracket / holder for all components, such as the 2 pairs of saddle packs, the speedo and the receiver. The large high power brushless motor is securely mounted on a sturdy aluminium motor plate between the rear 2-speed bracket and the aluminum radio plate support and all elements have been positioned in such a way that an optimal weight balance of the car is maintained. The release date is expected to be mid December 2009. Serpent will also offer a conversion set, to change your 960 or 966 into a full blown electric racer.

WOW I bet the electric version will be way faster with a brushless sysytem than the nitro set up. I dont know about cheaper though between batteries, chargers and how fast technology updates with electronics its gonna be expensive to keep up with the joneses lol

Now that the 966 has an EP version I wonder if Serpent will also make a CF chassis for the 966 EP 1/8 ? that would be even cooler.

I’d rather going nitro, though.

A group of nitros sounds like F1 … a group of electrics sounds like bees … horrible. ;-)

What a luck I have my old Kyosho Fantom 2001 with the steering servo pretty much in the front so I simply can mount 2×2s or 2×3s lipos … but this would be a blame on a prestigeous 1/8th onroad chassis … lol

Is that 4x saddles in series? = 14,8 volts?
