The all new AMB IT Personal transponder
We have received photos of the all new AMB IT personal transponder that was being tested recently at the MACH indoor track in the Netherlands. Some drivers were given the new MyLaps PT to test out and so we ended up with pictures. The previous PT was very innovative and changed how we race, but it had been around for a long time and was due and upgrade, and so here it is. Weighing only 4 grams its almost half that of the original, while the size is now 16 x 9 x 6mm, making it considerably smaller too. It will be supplied with a quick change holder that enables the user to easily switch between a version that has now eyelets shown above, to one that has mounting eyelets so it can be screwed to a transponder mounting plate. It will be available in either black or red, has lower power consumption, works with less voltage and when it hits the market in the next few weeks the cable isolation will be PTFE Teflon, which is fuel resistant. Note that the PT in the images is still a prototype.

They had a prototype at the last 1/10 national. Saw it, seems like a good improvement. Most improved part: Cable! :)

It’s made from PTFE Teflon. (not like RED RC says, the whole case) which is much more nitro resistand, and wil not “brake or split” as easy as Silicon. they also use a multflex core of the wire which will keep it smooth.

About the price, they also mentioned that they want it to be cheaper…

Yea 129.99 is ridiculious, they will not be competitive with mrt, maybe from the nitro standpoint, but electric racers dont care about anti-fuel proof coating, especially with todays econemy they shouldnt be double the cost of the currentlly smaller/lighter unit, that in all honestlly counts laps?

Fuel proof? The current AMBs are sealed and fuel proof. Ever crack one open to fix a frayed wire? The internals are sealed with silicone on the current transponders. Who is AMB trying to fool??

MRT still the choise,no doubt at 65$.
In my opinion AMB transponders are a little more stronger case wich can make the difference but not anough to call 129,99.
And don’t forget the possibility to clone the AMB transpondre wich MRT can provide.

I have said it before, but MRT jumped on the train AMB developped.
Is there a dedicated MRT site where you can find your practice times, like MYLAPS?….
Indeed, there isn’t, so not supporting AMB will in the future maybe result in dissapearance of the MYLAPS site…..

Really.. MYLAPS? You want to spend twice as much money just to look at your practice times at home? Who cares?! Just get a printout of your times while you’re at the track. Furthermore, MYLAPS isn’t dependent on the transponders themselves. The decoder transmits the data to MYLAPS. MRT transponders still send a transponder number to the decoder, and the decoder will still send that number to MYLAPS along with your times. Trust me, with the money that AMB extorts from racers in other types of racing, I don’t think people buying MRT transponders will put any kind of financial hurting on AMB. An AMB transponder for a fullsize car is over $300. What AMB NEEDS to do is start producing handout transponders again for tracks to use. Our track needs a set and can’t get them. Therefore, new racers are forced to buy a $105 transponder when the club could have handouts. We suggest to all of our new racers to look at the MRT units as an alternative.

If the old AMB is still 104.99, Why the hell would the new one be any cheaper?… Remember when they first came out and were 42.00 dollars. I would have bought 5, One for every car.
It cost them 7.00 to make I bet, If that.

A little message to those who commented about the PTFE insulation. they are talking about the wire insulation not the case.
The wire on the original AMB transponders is garbage. It becomes very stiff and brittle over time, especially when exposed to fuel.
This should clear up the confusion. ;-)
