Tamiya TRF 2wd protoype buggy

Tamiya TRF 2wd protoype buggy

Seen competing for the first time at the Yatabe International off road GP a few weeks ago, and at a few other locations since, Tamiya are showing off some details on their new prototype TRF 2wd buggy. A pretty standard affair in a class where big steps forward in terms of development is difficult, it is a rear mounted motor configuration, fully adjustable shocks all round, rear universal shafts, a ball diff and a new body and wing. Tamiya will be releasing more details, as well as some chassis shots, of the new car in the near future.

Finaly! a little late to the party but at least they arrived. Hope this means we’ll see a shortcourse truck in the future.

I have seen it and am a bit disappointed that it is nothing really new in design.

Looks a lot like a B4

There is nothing new in ANY 2wd design. What do you want?

7. slow42 - April 3rd, 2010 at 14:05

@upon3 – look at x-6 and the new schumacher… there CAN be something new… but that tamiya is just a 99% B4 clone – shame on them!

8. dodo - April 4th, 2010 at 05:53

if they made it mid mounted motor like the X-6, people will say it’s X-6 clone. doesn’t matter.

Second time around. The first was the ASTUTE.

10. JJ - April 4th, 2010 at 11:42

why buy a copy when you can get the real B4?

11. upon3 - April 4th, 2010 at 14:10

First, mid motors were done in the 80s by Tekin and a few others based on the RC10 design. The X6 and Cougar are not new ideas, either, just variations on a theme.

Second, the “real” B4 as you put it, JJ, has quite a few flaws today—including the terrible shocks, weight balance for LiPos and brushless motors, and composites durability. Cars like the TRF, Kyosho and others are taking a concept that everyone knows works and making it better.

If it fixes the inherent issues with the current B4 and improves on everything that needs attention with the car, it can’t be all that bad.

@upon3
That will be the B5…
