Pre-WC in Bangkok postponed due to flooding

Pre-WC in Bangkok postponed due to flooding

The organisers of the 2012 IFMAR 1/10th 200mm World Championships in Thailand have got in contact to inform competitors planning to attend the ‘Thailand Invitational’ Pre-WC race originally set for the 7th to 13th of November 2011 that it has been postponed until the 9th to 15th of January 2012 due to the serious flooding taking place in the country. While the RC Addict track is still not effected, there is an impending surge of water which could see competitors stranded in Bangkok which is something they don’t want to happen.

Dear Drivers

I’m Jarb Ratanarat, the representative of Radio Controlled Car Association of Thailand as host of the 2012 Nitro 200mm IFMAR World Championship in Bangkok, Thailand.

I must extend our greatest apologies for the fact that we have to postpone our Pre-WC race on the 7-13 November 2011 to 9-15 January 2012.

As we all know about the flooding situation in Thailand, RC Addict track has been dry, but there has been a second surge of water from the north, which had us reconsider the possibility of the Pre-WC race on the 7-13 November 2011. As before, the water has stabled out, which gave us the confidence that the water will not reach Central Bangkok. However, with this additional surge of water that is proving to be a major surge will cause Central Bangkok to be flooded, definitely. It is only a matter of time, which was forecast to be within 3-4 days. RC City, which is only 20 minutes away, is already 30 cm under water and it took only 2 days from once the water has arrived at RC City to raised 30 cm. This was caused by the first surge only.

Therefore, we are compelled to postpone the Pre-WC race, as we cannot risk all the drivers being stranded in Bangkok due to flooding. I hope fellow drivers would understand the gravity of this situation and therefore understand our decision.

I hope that you all are still able to change your travelling schedule and come the Pre-WC race. Early January weather is still very similar to November with even less chance of rain.

Best regards,

Porapong “Jarb” Ratanarat – RCCAT Representitive
