2016/17 Winter Jumps Rd1 – Report

The popular Finnish Winter Jumps RC off-road series recently had its opening round held at the Vaasa RC Club, host of the 2011 IFMAR 1/10th off-road World Championships. Different from other racing series that are run on grippy carpet or astroturf tracks, the Winter Jumps series also has two races held on slippery surfaces with the Vaasa round being one of them. In the 2WD race Joona Haatanen dominated every qualifier with his Team Associated buggy and he would also win the A-mains to take the day’s win from Schumacher driver Touko Silpola and Konsta Saarinen (Xray).

2WD final results:
1. Joona Haatanen – Team Associated
2. Touko Silpola – Schumacher
3. Konsta Saarinen – Xray
4. Oskari Mäki – Team Associated
5. Eeli Vieno – Xray
6. Jarno Siltanen – Schumacher
7. Mikko Luopajärvi – Team Associated
8. Ilmari Ullakko – Team Associated
9. Pekko Iivonen – Schumacher
10.Max Söderlund – Team Durango

In 4WD the competition was way tighter with many drivers being in the mix for the overall TQ and the race win. In the qualifiers the battle for TQ was on between Jarno Siltanen (Schumacher) and Konsta Saarinen (Xray) while the final legs saw three different winners with Jarno Siltanen, Markku Honkanen (Team Durango) and Pekko Iivonen (Schumacher). When the dust had settled it was Jarno to come out in front of Pekko and Konsta.
